Archaeology and tomb raiding may seem similar as both are about excavating the remnants left by ancient people, but in reality, they are two very different affairs. The biggest distinction lies in the former being driven by scientific and cultural objectives, while the latter is a naked pursuit of money.
Because of this difference, archaeologists often engage in rescue excavations of ancient ruins and attempt to preserve as much information as possible for future research during the process.
In contrast, tomb raiders will not do so. They select and dig out valuable burial objects to exchange for money without considering the archaeological value of these artifacts.
Not only do they cause damage during excavation, but they also separate and sell off connected cultural relics, utterly destroying the history contained within these items.
