The United States of America, from the beginning, was a republic, and there were no officially recognized nobles, let alone emperors, but that doesn't mean that there were no self-proclaimed individuals of such titles in the country.
It is well known that on this land, there were a countless number of people who claimed to be divine beings, and there were definitely many individuals who proclaimed themselves as kings and emperors.
However, most of these people were like modern individuals giving themselves a stylish online nickname to play with, and although no one governs this behavior, they will not be remembered by the masses.
Among such individuals, there was an exception – a man who was recognized by the people as the only emperor of America, Norton I.
Originally named Joshua Abraham Norton, Norton I was born in England. In 1849, 30-year-old Norton came to America with 40,000 dollars to do business but quickly declared bankruptcy.
