Based on previous reconnaissance, the tunnel that Leonard and his team were in was built in two phases. The first phase was during World War I, but the Austro-Hungarian Empire was in decline at the time, so this enormous project was abandoned.
However, before World War II, after the German-Austrian merger, Austria, as part of Germany, underwent similar infrastructure construction as Germany did. This tunnel complex in the mountains was built during that era.
The whole underground structure had three separate tunnels. In two of the tunnels, there were a lot of messy-looking carriages, both old and new, carrying both passengers and goods.
In the third tunnel, there were some maintenance tools in the front and a lot of boxes in the back. Most of the box lids had been opened. Leonard looked at one or two of them and saw that they contained high-quality furniture.
