Three days later, having completed all the formalities and received various digging tools sent from Greece, Leonard and his companions rented a car and headed west from Vienna to their destination.
Because Austria's capital is located at the easternmost part of the country, it took them five hours to reach Innsbruck, and then another three hours to arrive at Mittelberg on the German-Austrian border.
It was already 5 o'clock in the evening, and due to the high latitude in winter, it was almost dark. Fortunately, they had already booked rooms online in advance, so they were able to check in smoothly at a vacation hotel on the edge of the city area.
Although it is called a city, Mittelberg looks more like a prosperous and thriving little town in terms of scale and population. Their inn is on the edge of the town, a three-story building situated in the midst of white snow.
