Leonard Ethan had no idea how much of a stir his thesis had caused in faraway Paris. After finishing the thesis, he just wanted to take a good rest at home and return to work after Christmas.

This invitation came from Mr. Bruce, a real estate businessman in New York, on the other side of the Atlantic.
In fact, Leonard had not known this businessman before, so when he first received the call, he almost hung up, thinking it was a scam.
Fortunately, the other party promptly mentioned Dr. David Cadwell, the head of the Scottish Underground Treasure Department with whom Leonard had cooperated well in his previous cases, which made Leonard realize that the person on the phone was not a fraud.
