After finishing their makeshift dinner of fast food and tea made from filtered spring water, Leonard swept the surroundings with his metal detector, focusing on areas with signs of human activity.
Perhaps because the people who passed by here were poor at the time, besides a common 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar, he only found a dozen or so lead bullets that had turned into ugly lumps.
"These are old-fashioned bare lead bullets for a .44 caliber pistol," Barry said as he examined the small pile of bullets.
"At least in the early 20th century, these bullets, already outdated in the eastern and urban areas, still had a sizable market in the Western Region and Canada. If I remember correctly, my father used to buy the same type of bullets for his old revolver until I was seven or eight," he added.
"Looks like a fire happened here before," Leonard muttered, looking at the deformed bullets. It was clear these bullets were not fired for fun by the outlaws back in their days.
