Upon hearing the alert from the Metal Detector for the first time, Leonard and others became excited and began digging with the shovels in their hands.
Unfortunately, the results were not encouraging, at least at the beginning, as they mostly found items similar to iron nails, tinplate, and such like—nothing but old metal scraps.
However, this was expected, since this area had seen consistent human activity over the years, leaving behind a trail of metal items isn't at all strange.
The others present didn't find anything amiss either because archaeology can also be seen as a continual trial-and-error process, and encountering trash like this is quite common.
Finally, when the Metal Detector sounded once again, something previously unseen appeared under their digging tools: a glint of gold shone through a clump of dirt.
