The Northern Liang Anzhou Statue Buddhist Temple Stele is an important lost Chinese cultural relic, with the only historical trace being half of a rubbing.
In 1906, influenced by the constitutional movement, the Qing government sent Swiss and other ministers to visit the West to study constitutionalism and prepare to draft the Constitution.
Swiss was greatly surprised when he saw the Northern Liang Anzhou Statue Buddhist Temple Stele in the Berlin East Asian Art Museum. As a scholar of epigraphy, he understood the preciousness and importance of this stele, so he requested a rubbing.
With the cooperation of the Berlin East Asian Art Museum, Swiss obtained a rubbing and brought it back to China, which became the last known trace of this stele.
