Just as Joan finally revealed her identity, the mission was completed. All the hustle and noise in the city disappeared, and the whole world became quiet.
Leonard saw that everything around him had come to a halt, whether it was the distant blue sky, the cathedral's spire, or Mr. Doris, who had a surprised look on his face. It was as if the whole world had been paused with the press of a button.
Leonard and Joan then felt themselves slowly rising up. The world began to recede, and in the blink of an eye, all that remained was a bright white light, just like when they had arrived.
After seemingly crossing some unidentified barrier, Leonard and Joan found themselves back on solid ground in the dark room in Bern that they had been in before.
In front of them, the area of light they previously had entered began to shrink rapidly and eventually disappeared. The room returned to its original state now that the light was gone.
