This telescope was a very obvious marker, and soon Leonard and the others took out metal detectors and began searching the area. They quickly made more discoveries.
"Springfield 0.30-06 rifle bullet, which became the standard rifle bullet of the United States Army in 1906 and had wide civilian applications." Looking at the deformed bullet they found, Leonard quickly identified the bullet type.
"There are more here." Shortly after Leonard found a bullet, others found several more in the vicinity, each one a deformed bullet after firing.
Interestingly, these bullets were not all of the same type as those Leonard previously found. In addition to the rifle bullets found earlier, there were .45 handgun bullets and .30-30 Winchester rifle bullets.
"What on earth happened here? Why are there so many bullets?" Looking at the more than 20 bullets combined, Joan asked somewhat puzzled. "And they are so densely distributed."
