Chapter 24 - Demolished Heart

"You attack me and they'll kill you.", she points out.

"Oh, I know.", I say with a smirk, turning invisible.

"Where did she go?"

"Holy shit!"

"We need to get the princess out of here."

"All of you shut up.", Lexa yells.

Smirking as the guards become cluster fucks; silently moving towards my dead friend and gently picking up Calimesa, then moving to Zeke and McKenna, putting my hand out as it glows white to see their bodies floating. Glancing over at the cluster fucks again to see that they're still in a cluster but notice that Lexa's eyes are wondering over towards us, making the bodies invisible and picking up speed so I do nothing stupid; as I reach the beginning of the trees, I hear-

"Where the fuck are the bodies?"

Continuing my way towards our place when I come across Aster leaning against a tree; turning visible as I reach them. Placing my hand on their shoulder, making them jump before casting a spell, which I mumble a barrier around us; once they realised who I was, did they relax.

"Did you get to them?", they ask.

"Yes, and no.", I whisper.

"What do you mean?", they ask.

Releasing them from being invisible, they gasp as they cover their mouth.

"I'm-"

"Don't.", I hiss.

Nodding their head, before grabbing McKenna, so I release her from my floating spell, continuing on to the flower field where it all started for us. Flashbacks run through my mind as I held the tears back; softly smiling as I hear them speak without a care in the world.

Flashback one: 'Ten-year-old me comes running into the field with snacks in the satchel Calimesa made for my birthday.

"Guys, I brought snacks!", I say while holding the bag.

Hearing wings, I look up in the sky to see Zeke flying down, but he looks like his having problems, so I drop the satchel and fly towards him.

"What do you need help with?", I ask.

"I don't- ahh! Okay, okay. I don't know how to land while flying!", he starts before he falls, then screams.

"The way I learned to fly was if I can't trust myself not to hurt myself while landing, then slow down your wings and put out your arms.", I explain.

Nodding his head as he does what I said; his body is shaking more but not once did he fall. Once we were about three feet when I close my wings.

"Ruth, what are you doing?", Zeke yells.

"Landing.", I reply as I get closer to the ground when my wings come back out.

"Don't scare me like that!", he mumbles as he lands.

"Sorry.", I say with a laugh.

"Hey, where's McKenna and Calimesa?", I ask, sitting down.

"I don't know.", he replies.

"After the snack, want to practice flying some more?", I ask.'

Flashback two: '"Hey Ruth, want to make flower crowns with me?", Calimesa asks.

Opening my mouth but she rushes into her next sentence-

"Youdon'thavetoo."

"I was going to say yes.", I say, giving her a soft smile.

"Wait, really?"

"Were you picked on because making flower crowns calms you down.", I state.

She nods her head before sitting down and works on it.'

Flashback three: ' Hiding behind a brush, trying to stay hidden from McKenna, when I spotted her. Slowly sneaking towards her, being careful of things that would make too much sounds.

"Boo!", I shout as I jump up from behind her.

"I was hoping I would get you.", she whines.

"Maybe next time.", I say, laughing.'

"Ruth we're here.", Aster says.

Moving forward to the center of the field, as I was a spell to make three deep holes before using my magic to ease Calimesa's and McKenna's bodies, leaving only

Zeke. Heading to Aster and take him out of their arms- once they were all cover. Falling to the ground as the crushing weight of their deaths has on me.

"I'll leave you to grieve."

["They need to pay!", roars my dragon.]

"They will.", I whisper.

Snapping out of my thoughts when I feel lightning hitting me.

"Aahhh!"

["You can do this.", my dragon says.]

["Shut up! You're not the one being electric'd.", I hiss out as I groan in pain.]

Groaning and growling as I shift my body when suddenly I'm in an unfamiliar area. Slowly getting up, while hissing to see...

"What in the world?"

Standing right in front of me are my parents; tilting my head when neither of notice me once again. Sighing as I realise nothing changed; heading towards the training ground when I hear a voice chasing the sound to see Wyatt and an unknown man.

"Why must we hide?", the unknown man asks.

"My family already hates you.", Wyatt whispers.

"But I thought they liked me?", he asks.

"So did I until I told them I'm pregnant again."

"You're PREGNANT!", he yells happily.

"Shhh! You're not supposed to be here.", Wyatt says while covering the other man's mouth.

"Sorry.", he mumbles.

"Do you think you could figure out why they hate me?", he asks after a few minutes.

"You remember when I was telling you about my family?", Wyatt asks.

"Yeah, you said that your brother, William, is trying for children.", he answers.

"Yeah, so I've been pregnant twice now."

"Oh, but what does that have to do with me?", he asks.

"William has been trying for a child longer than me.", Wyatt starts.

"How? Cody is already born though?", I whisper.

"Our baby boy Cody, can't even see me, and I'm his mother.", he then cries.

"Cody! I'm confused. Who's our actual parents then?", I asked.

"Wyatt, I'm not understanding what you're saying.", the man says.

"I agree."

"I won't exist anymore."

Eyes widen when I understand what my parent is trying to tell my father; tears fall as I watch him conclude as well.

"No, there has to be another way!", he demands.

"You know there isn't.", mother whispers.

"I can't lose anymore people.", he whispers back while holding his lover's face.

"I will be the only one you lose."

"That's a lie and you know it!", he whisper-shouts.

Mother softly smiles at father before looking over at me, shocked. I step back, then look behind me to see if they were actually looking at me and they are. Gulping, I pay attention to mother's mouth.

"I love you and will always remember you, but it's time to leave."

Nodding my head as I'm back in the field-

"Time to make things right."
