Chapter 62 - More questions

Alexander sat beside Elen and she laid her head on his shoulder. She looked at him, as if trying to say something but she couldn't say it. She really wanted to ask him but she didn't know if he'll get angry or not, but knowing him, every little thing gets him angry so she could only brace herself to coax him when he does get angry.

Alexander noticed her movements and he just sighed. "What is it you want to ask?" He said as he patted her head.

Elen felt like she was caught red-handed and she knew she couldn't escape his question because the curious expression in their face was obvious. They both needed answers to their questions and Elen could only sigh. It's not as if she'll hide forever!

"Uhm. I hope you don't get angry?" She said.

"If what you're about to say doesn't get me angry, then I won't....but knowing my temper, I might not be ab -"

"I understand." She said.

"Good to know." He coldly said but Elen ignored him and proceeded to ask him what had been bothering her.

"Am I....I a burden to you?" She said and for a moment, Alexander stopped patting her head as he gazed into those amber eyes. Elen knew what was coming next and she just closed her eyes, waiting for him to angrily leave, but a minute passed and nothing happened. He was still there, sitting frozen.

She was about to leave his arms but he held her not wanting to let go. His grip on her was tight and Elen knew that he wasn't angry but what's with the sudden possessiveness? Why's he suddenly acting as if I'm going to disappear soon??

"Alexander I'm sorry if my quest -"

"Who said you're a burden to me?" He asked in a calm voice but his teeth were clenched.

Elen caressed his cheeks with the back of her palm. She continued that way until she could feel his body relax. "Hey. Don't act that way! No one said a thing okay? It's just something I've been meaning to ask." She explained with a smile. He didn't say anything further again and spoke

"More questions?" He asked and Elen nodded.

She closed her eyes and opened them again, took in a deep breathe and then spoke. "Do you regret getting married to me?" She asked and this time Alexander had moved away from her. He gazed into her eyes without saying anything. Elen could see that he was slightly angry with this question but she didn't do anything, she wanted him to answer the question.

Seconds, minutes had passed by but he still didn't say a thing. He only stood up and stood by the window. Elen guessed he wasn't ready to answer that question so she could only sigh. Did she think it would be easy to get answers from him? What was she even thinking?! He had not answered her first question, he only replied back with a question, and now, he did not reply at all. She sighed at the thought. 'Nothing's ever easy with him.'

She was engrossed in thinking that she didn't notice that he had left the window and was now heading towards the door. Did that question really anger him that much? Was he leaving again?

"Alexander, are you leaving?" She asked in a worried tone.

"I'll be back." He simply said.

"At least tell me where you're going." She said.

"To meet the king." He said and left.

She sighed and fell back on the bed. 'At least, he's not leaving again.' She thought but then, why would he go to meet the king? Is there a problem?

....

"Father. We need to talk." Alexander coldly said, he had entered the throne hall and he saw his father gracefully sitting on his throne.

"And what's so important that my son found it necessary to visit?"

"Everything I say is important so listen to what I have to say."

"Before you start, I'd like to address the things I've heard about you." Arit said.

"And what are the things Your majesty would like to address?" He asked in a mocking tone, Arit could hear his son's tone but he ignored it.

"You leave the palace anytime you want. You're a prince , you have responsibilities to fulfill!" Arit said and Alexander chuckled.

"If you had allowed me to speak, you wouldn't be saying this now." He said in a cold tone, his gaze had turned sharp and it almost looked like he was glaring at his father.

"And about responsibilities, I'm not the crown prince." He said.

"But still, you have a wife." Arit retorted.

"Would you like to hear what it is I want to say? because if you don't, I'd take everything into my hands and you'd have nothing to say about it." Alexander said.

"Go on." He said and Alexander gazed at his father, giving him a warning look.

"Tell the crown prince -"

"Your brother." Arit corrected but Alexander ignored him.

"Tell the crown prince, he should stop all of his silly tricks he's putting on. I'm not interested in the throne, he's trying to hurt my wife to get me. The other day, he had sent troops to attack me and my wife." He said with clenched teeth.

"Tell him, if he doesn't stop whatever it is he's planning, he won't get to see another day." Alexander said in a dead cold voice.

"Look son, how are you sure he sent those troops? You have many enemies and it might be one of them." Arit said and Alexander shook his head and chuckled. He looked mockingly at his father.

"Speculations! What was I expecting? You would always be on his side. But let me tell you this one thing, it's not going to work this time. I won't let him win this time! Just you watch and see." Alexander said and turned to leave, leaving King Arit shocked and worried. No! He couldn't let them engage in a fight! War?! It would be a disaster! He could still see Alexander's retreating back and he decided to call out to him. He just hoped it would work.

"Son? Do you plan to engage in war?" He said and instead of ignoring him like he normally used to, he paused and turned to look at his father.

"King Arit..." He paused and chuckled...."If he asks for it then who am I to say no?" He said with a sinister smirk on his face.

"Alexander! You're not a child anymore! You're a grown man with a wife. Don't engage in war for your entertainment. Thousands of lives would be lost for nothing but your entertainment!" Arit yelled, it was the first time after so many years he yelled at his son.

"Say that to your son." He said with a sharp gaze and left without sparing his father another glance.
