Chereads / MARRIED TO A DEMON LORD / Chapter 41 - Riding huh?

Chapter 41 - Riding huh?

Elen was already caressing the golden brown horse's skin. It was just so unique and she loved it. She somehow found an attachment to the horse. She didn't know why, but it felt like she had known this horse forever.

"Do you like that one?" Alexander asked.

"Yes, he's beautiful."

"It's a she." Alexander corrected.

"She? No way. She looks way stronger than a female horse!" Elen said in disbelief.

"Mhm." Was the only thing he said.

"Can you ride it?" He asked and Elen almost rolled her eyes.

"I've been riding for a very long time." She said and she didn't know whether the mischievous smirk she saw on his face was her imagination or he was really giving her that smirk.

"Riding huh?" He uttered with that smirk on his face but too soon, it was gone and his face was back to it's normal state.

Alexander helped her up even when she had told him it was okay, he pretended as if he didn't hear a word and just lifted and placed her on the horse.

He sat on his horse and they both started moving at a very slow pace.

The soldiers behind them also grabbed their horses and followed their prince.

They rode through the city until they started heading towards a beautiful field filled with flowers and grass. Of course, Elen loved the view and couldn't help but gape at her surroundings.

"It's sooo beautiful." She said facing him.

"Mhm."

"Can we stay here for a short while? Please." She pleaded but he seemed to be contemplating on something.

"Please." She uttered again.

"No, we should go home." He said.

"But....everyone is tired and this place is a great place for rest." She said but the man didn't even budge.

"Please I'm also tired." She said.

"Then I'll carry you." He said causing Elen to blush.

"There's no need to do that when we can recuperate here." She said.

"Besides your men are also tired, they might also need a little rest." She tried her best convincing him.

Alexander glanced at his men and gave a low sigh. This wife of his....

"My men, are you all tired?" He asked them and his tone was clearly giving them a warning of 'don't you dare say you're tired.'

They all glanced at each other and immediately shook their head. "No your highness, we're perfectly fine." Amadeus spoke.

"Yes, Amadeus is right your highness. We're definitely not tired, even if we are, who are we to say t -" Robert who was talking like a lost parrot got his mouth shut by Lago.

"Can't you keep your mouth shut for a second?" Lago whispered in his ear.

"Haha. Don't mind this guy your highness. He's just spouting things out." Lago said.

"Yes, your highness. Don't mind a word that I say." He said with a grin on his face, but Alexander just glanced at them and turned his focus to his wife.

"See? If you're feeling a bit tired you can stay behind me on my horse." He said and Elen dropped her head in defeat. There's no way she could actually convince her husband. Sigh...she really needs to find a weapon to make her husband at least grant her every requests.

The reason why he didn't want her to stay here was because of the enemies. They might just give a surprise attack and his men are only few. He didn't bring a lot of his guards so Elen wouldn't feel uncomfortable. That was why he brought only five of his men that she's familiar with.

Elen let out a low sigh out and glanced at him. This husband of hers.... She knew she couldn't convince him anymore.

....

Elen was already on her horse, everyone were ready to leave. Alexander's horse was beside hers and his five men were all behind him.

"Shall we?" He said and Elen nodded.

This time, the pace they were going was faster and the soldiers already knew that their prince must have sensed danger, so they were on high alert. Soon enough, they were almost out of the beautiful field and Elen was already starting to get worn out. She was already tired. It seemed she's reached her limits and she couldn't move anymore.

Her horse stopped and they all creased their brows as to why she stopped but before they could even start thinking, she was already losing her balance. Alexander and the soldiers noticed this and they ran up to catch with her.

In no time, Alexander had already caught her in his arms. He placed her behind his horse and she wrapped her hands tightly on his waist.

"I'm sorry, I was already getting tired." She said but she didn't get any response from him. It seemed to her that his mind was elsewhere. It was like he was focusing on something or someone. She couldn't tell but she just hoped that everything was alright. Or could it be that he's ups.....

She couldn't complete her thought because Alexander had already sliced someone's throat using his sword. She was shocked because that person was behind her and she couldn't even feel that something or someone was behind her. How the hell did he know?!! But she couldn't ponder more on it because they were more people attacking them. They were attacking mercilessly and it seems they sent troupes. It was a well countered and planned attack. It looked like they were waiting for Alexander to drop his guard down and they got the perfect chance when he was busy distracted with her. Elen gritted her teeth in anger. She could see that the men were still fighting but could they keep up with this large number? They were definitely too much of them and she wasn't sure if six men would be able to defeat what looked like an army of enemies. Even if she lent them a hand, would she even last long??

Another enemy was about to stab Elen from the back but again, Alexander didn't let him.

"Don't you dare come close to my wife!" He yelled with that menacing voice of his. That voice that could send shivers down anyone's spine. Even the enemies felt a little taken aback. But of course, Elen was the only one who was unfazed.

She pulled a sword from it's sheath but Alexander stopped her.

"I want to help." She said but the man just glanced at her and turned away.

"Please." She pleaded.

He turned to Robert and Lago, and it was as if he spoke some hidden message that Elen couldn't understand, but when they nodded and glanced at her, it was then that Elen realized that he had instructed them to take her away from this place.

"Alexander please. I can't leave you here all alone!" She still tried convincing him but he just looked away.

Robert gently carried her and placed her on his horse. "Please hold on tight, your highness." He said. His tone was serious and this was the first time she felt a certain chill oozing out of him.

She heaved a sigh. She knew that no matter what she says or does, her husband would never allow her to stay in a battle field. She closed her eyes and as if remembering something, she opened her eyes and attempted to get down from the horse but Robert's firm grip stopped her.

"What are you doing, your highness?"

"M-my horse...i-i-it's still out there. I can't leave it out there! It's old and it might get hurt." She said and he heaved a sigh.

"Lago. Go get her horse and leave yours here." He instructed and the man immediately nodded.

Elen glanced back at her husband and she could see him fighting off the enemies coming towards her with a slight smirk on his face. Her heart clenched when she saw him fighting alone, she couldn't do anything to help him! She didn't want to him to fight alone!! She wanted to fight alongside with him!

More enemies were coming out of nowhere, and Elen's heart began to drum in her ears, not because of fear for her life or something but because her husband was there with only three men with him. Could they even fight off these large numbers of people?!!

Robert was riding at a fast speed with Lago who had arrived not long ago with her golden horse also riding behind them, he was killing off any enemies that dares to go close to the princess.

Elen so badly wanted to ask if Alexander would be alright but she refrained from it. She could see that he was having intense focus and she didn't want to be the reason to distract him! But this was about her husband here! She couldn't just possibly ignore the fact that he's fighting all alone!! So after contemplating for a few minutes, she finally opened her mouth to speak.

"Will my husband be alright? I mean, he's fighting all those large numbers of people. Shouldn't you help him....y-y-you can take me to somewhere safe and go help him. The palace is still far from here."

"No princess. It's our duty to protect you, we can't possibly leave you somewhere....and don't worry about his Highness, he's definitely going to be alright." He said but Elen wasn't quite convinced.

"Is this the first time he's experiencing this kind of attack?" She asked but the man just fell silent as though he had suddenly turned mute.
