Chapter 1 - Prologue

My camera was recording me as I sat on my bed. I picked up my guitar and started playing. One day, I'd like to become a famous singer. I would upload these videos to YouTube. Immediately after saying my name, I uploaded the video. I have been recording myself for the past couple of weeks and checking how many times people view my videos. No luck so far, I guess the universe is telling me that I'm not meant to be a singer.

However, one day I decided to cover Ed Sheeran's song. Other songs were written by me. As well as singing, I also write songs. After I did my cover, it went viral. I remember yelling for my mom from my bedroom upstairs. My mom dropped everything and ran upstairs.

In excitement, I told them that one of my videos had been viewed 80 million times. I couldn't believe it. Mom told me that she was overjoyed. Ashley kept wondering if I would ever get on the radio. "You never know," I replied.

In my bedroom, I was writing down a song. After scratching out a few words, I continued playing my guitar. Ashley tapped on my door, and I turned my head. Standing outside the doorway, she asked. "May I come in?" She asked.

One day, Ashley and I were walking home from school when we talked about the video that had millions of views. She kept telling me that I might even win the Grammy. Her excitement was misplaced, and I knew this was only the beginning.

Dinner was being eaten in the dining room at home along with my parents and Ashley. Every now and then, I wondered when I would hear from someone. When my mother was busy eating, I asked her if she thinks that I will ever be like a famous singer. She swallowed before saying, "I'm sure you will be."

On my way to school the next day, my phone blew up. I knew it was because one of my videos had gone viral. I realized it was what I was meant to do. After summer school ended, it wasn't until about a week later. My phone rang and I had no idea who the caller was. Seeing the screen of my phone, I answered immediately. The caller was a manager, asking for a meeting.

As fast as I could, I ran to my house. Ashley was behind and would catch up soon. As I entered the house, I climbed the stairs to my parents' bedroom. "Mom!" I shouted. "Someone wants to speak to you."

Having handed my phone to my mother, she wished the guy a good afternoon. My mother was told that I should fly down to Atlanta by the guy. In response to my mother's question, he told her that I can sing. Additionally, he thinks I'm a natural, and that I should meet him in person. And so we did. Two months after summer vacation started, Mom and I flew down to Atlanta. I remember looking out the window of the plane as I sat on my seat. My mom was all excited, and so was I.

Tom Griddle was his name. He was forty years old, and we met in a studio. "Blake, it's nice to finally meet you." I shook his hand, just as he shook mine. "It's nice to meet you, too."
