Clara Brown replied, "Do you really think I want you to play the eating and drinking game? If I could achieve what you want by selling myself, I would willingly shoulder the ignominy. Sadly, I am too old now, and there won't be many takers even if I were to consider it an option. And even if there are, unless they are wealthy, I don't know how much sleeping around it would take in Metropolis for me to pave a smooth path for you."
Listening to these words, it was impossible for Mia Garcia not to feel a flicker of guilt.
"Mom, I've been thoughtless," she said.
Clara approached her, holding her tightly and chokingly said, "Mia, we've had a hard life, but are you willing to give up a good life that was supposed to be ours?"
