Jessica's POV
When I opened my eyes, I could see nothing but black. I could see some light trying to invade the dark room from my right but it was blocked with a dark curtain. With my eyes still closed, I stretched my sore muscles.
I then hissed when I couldn't stretch my legs and ended up hurting my poor nerves. Not even struggling to stand up, I lay back down on the bed and stared at the dark ceiling. I closed my eyes and replayed the scene that happened in the port.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared. I almost died and I was beyond scared. And the fact that Luke's face appeared in my mind right before I lost consciousness is the most annoying thing ever. He did end up saving me and I should be thankful but I can't ignore the annoying voice in my head reminding me about it over and over again.
Deep down I know what it meant but I didn't want to admit that I have already fallen for that guy. Out of all the guys in the world, he's the least one I should be falling for. Had my parents known, they would have been so disappointed in me for falling in love with my enemy and I didn't want it to happen.
Just as I was having a mental breakdown in my head, in the dark room, the door opened and someone walked inside. I kept my eyes closed and soon after, the bed dipped as the person sat on the edge of the bed. I then felt someone grab my hand and frowned.
"Please wake up. Please." The person kept mumbling, grabbing my hand.
"I will do everything you ask as long as you wake up. Please." The familiar voice said it louder this time and I realized it belonged to Luke.
"Everything?" I asked, my voice hoarse and I opened one eye and stared at a dark figure by my side. The room was too dark for me to make out the person but I already figured out who he is by his deep voice. Only he has it.
"You're awake." He whispered, as if he couldn't believe that I was awake.
Then he let go of my hand and I closed my eyes when he opened the curtain, letting the bright sunlight hurt my poor eyes. I groaned when it hurt my eyes for me to get used to the light.
"You're up!" A huge grin broke out from his face, accentuating his sexy dimples and he was jumping up and down like a kid as he hovered over me, looking all over my face.
"Thank you." He hugged me and whispered so low that I barely caught onto it.
"For what?" I asked him as he let go of me and sat by my side.
"For waking up. Do you have any idea how sc-" He coughed and averted his eyes as if he said something wrong.
"-long you've been out?"
"Can I-" I couldn't complete the whole sentence as my throat hurt too much for me to finish it and he was on his feet, pouring the water from his nightstand.
I didn't even thank him as I took the glass from his hand and chugged it down to wet my dry throat.
"That feels so much better." I said and lay back down on the bed, Luke still staring at me and I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Oh, how's your leg?" He flinched a bit and went to look at my leg. He was examining my leg when the door opened and a middle-aged lady in a white gown entered.
"Hello, I am Jane, the assigned doctor for you. How are you feeling?" she asked after greeting Luke who didn't even bother to acknowledge her.
"Like shit. Thanks for asking though." I smiled at her and she returned it.
She then took a look at my leg and talked to Luke in a language I often heard Luke communicate with his people.
"Your vital and everything's normal and your leg will be healed in a week or so. Make sure you don't get them wet."
"How would you know if my vital and bp is normal without the monitor and measuring it?" I asked skeptically.
"Mr. Ivanov had it moved to the room next door where I had been watching over you for days. He was worried that you might be irritated with the beeping sound." she explained and my eyes widened at how considerate he is.
"I will come by every hour to check on you. Just ring the bell next to you if you feel any discomfort. I will be dismissed now." Jane bowed and left, leaving the two of us in a very awkward silence. I never expected Luke to be such a considerate person.
"What else have you done for me? How long have I been out?" I asked him curiously and he sat on the chair by the bed.
"You've been out for thirty-three hours. From now on, the maids will be attending you and just ring the bell if you want to take a walk or get out of bed. Don't you dare walk around with that injured leg." He almost scared me at how angrily he said those words.
"You're only allowed to get out of bed after ten days. If you need to go to the bathroom, ring the bell, if you want a bath, call the maids, if you want to go out for fresh air, I will take you out on the wheelchair. Got it?" I rolled my eyes and replied with a smirk.
"Yes daddy."
Maybe that wasn't the wisest thing to do because his silver eyes turned almost black. With an awkward laugh, I turned my head and closed my eyes, pretending I was asleep. I then soon heard him stand up from the chair and walk around the bed and to the door.
"Don't sleep yet. The maids will be here soon with food so eat them before you sleep. I will be back soon." He spoke in an agonizingly deep and sexy voice before he walked out of the room, leaving me all messed up and my heart pounding in my chest.
I stared at the ceiling to calm my heartbeat when the door opened again and Jane walked inside, looking pale and out of breath.
"Are you alright? The heart monitoring is going crazy." She said and took my wrist in her hands, checking my pulse and leaving me all hot and bothered, lying there in embarrassment.
"I am fine. It's just stuffy here. Could you open the window please?"
"Of course." Jane opened the window and I took deep breaths to calm my heart.
Jane checked my pulse one more time before she left and when she left, I made a face and raised my hand to cover my face, as if it would lessen the embarrassment.
Well, at least Luke isn't here to see my embarrassed self.
The angel in my voice spoke and it eased the feeling a bit but it was a whole lot mess when the devil appeared and both of them started arguing, making me feel even more shittier than I already was.
As Luke said, maids soon came inside after knocking, with the whole tray full of different kind of porridge and small talk with them helped me get a certain someone out of my head. With their help, I was sitting on the bed, using the headboard as support as I went through my laptop.
I desperately wanted to take a bath and get out of bed. I've been lying around for so long that my muscles were begging me to move. So, when everyone was out of sight, I got up on my own and decided to go and sit on the balcony to take in some fresh air.
I limped towards the balcony and tried to open the door. As I was fumbling, the door of the room opened and I stared at a very angry-looking Luke on the doorway who stormed in my direction.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" He yelled as he scooped me up in his arms and laid me down on the bed and I huffed out an annoyed sigh.
I fucking limped across the room to get to the door and he fucking had to come and ruin my moment. I was pissed and was fuming when a cold drop of water fell on my bare shoulder. I looked up and that's when I realized Luke had taken a shower from wet hair.
"I just wanted to get to the balcony to get some air. That's all." I mumbled and I heard Luke sigh a few seconds later.
"Fine, I know it's my fault. I am get-Ah!" I squeaked when I was hoisted up yet again from the bed and led towards the balcony. When he opened the door to the balcony, I beamed upon seeing a clear sky with white clouds floating carefreely.
I was so occupied looking around that I didn't realize I was sitting on his lap. When I realized, I tried to get down but he gripped my thighs and kept me in place.
"Either you sit here, doing whatever you wanted to do or we are going in." He warned and I stuck out my tongue before turning around to admire the white fluffy clouds.
"How's everything?" I asked him, referring to the work I've missed.
"Don't worry about it. Nothing much happened. I will tell you all about it when you are healed." He whispered in my ear as he laid his chin on my shoulder and let out a sigh of content.
"Alright." I mumbled and averted my attention to the garden where a gardener was watering the flowers and some men were arguing about something, shirtless.
"Hey, what happened to the ship?" I asked him and he grumbled under his breath, his eyes closed.
"I blew it up after unloading all the useful weapons. And the jackass is dead and so did the sniper who didn't kill him earlier." His grip on my waist tightened as he said it and I patted his soft hair which was dried by now.
"It was unnecessary for you to kill the sniper. He didn't do anything wrong." I said and he shook his head, no.
"Alright, whatever you say." I hummed and continued admiring the clouds. I don't know why but the clouds and stars seem to calm my mind just by staring at them.
"Were you scared?" Luke raised his chin from my shoulder and stared at me.
"I mean, I would be lying if I said no. Who wouldn't be, right?" I told him honestly and his eyebrows furrowed.
"When I was drowning, I regretted not practicing shooting. I should listen to you from now on and spend more time shooting. Any advice for getting along with guns? They really seem to hate me." I tried to joke even though I wasn't in the mood and it only made Luke frown deeper.
I stared at him for a minute but he just kept his mouth shut, not uttering a word, his lips pursed and deep in thought. I sighed and looked away, leaving him to sort out his feelings on his own.
"It doesn't matter if you're bad with guns. As long as I am there, I will never let you get heart because of guns ever again. I promise." Luke's face was serious and solemn as he swore and I just stared at him, my heart racing a mile a minute.
No one's ever sworn to protect me with such a sincere and serious face. I just stared into Luciano's stunning grey eyes as he stared right back at me with intensity and determination written all over his face.
A smile broke out on my face and I nodded my head, trusting him to protect me. Trusting my enemy to protect me and the most absurd thing is that I trusted every word he said.
