Chapter 4 - Aether and Magical Affinity

"Ye-yea I never knew magic existed, well because of I have no memory, ha..ha..."

Giving the best impression of being embarrassed Drake was inwardly reeling. Magic, new world, and nobility, Drake just absorbed the hits at this point. Instead Drake was more curious about magic. As a scientist and engineer Drake curiosity was piqued.

"Fufu~ creatures in this world have the ability to use magic. Humans call it Aether Energy. To collect Aether Energy one needs to circulate their mana circuits. By doing this one can create phenomenons in the world with their affiliated element."

Tina then did a demonstration by circling her mana circuits. Her body began to show a slight blue covering draping over body. The worldly Aether Energy was pulled in torrents to the point that it was a tsunami. The table began to shake and plates were rumbling on the table. Close enough that Drake could feel it air movie around him.

'Interesting...I wonder what causes this. Mana circuits, Aether Energy, and she said creatures. Maybe there are monsters or demi-humans in this world? Well, that's far away. Let's just concentrate on collecting Aethric Energy.'

"I know this may be presumptuous of me, but may you teach me along Hailey today?"

John's face slightly fell after that. John was looking forward to sparring but realizing that using magic while battling was necessary so John made no comment afterwards and just looked at Tina who was the top mage in their family.

"Yay! Training partner! Mother you must let him join us today even if he is farther behind than me! Training with just myself is boring sometimes..."

Tina let our a weary sigh but just nodded her head. In response Drake gave a slight bow and thank you. After breakfast was over the Tenebris family went their separate ways. Tina, Hailey, and Drake went through the back of the house outside into a courtyard. The flowers were in full bloom as it was summer, the stone paths were adorned with Daffodil's which led to a large circular self-contained fountain where a mystical sea animal was spouting water.

Through the courtyard out the back gate there was a large training field and stables. A small building was placed on the side of the training field. Tina told Drake and Hailey to wait as she went inside for a minute and came back out. In Tina's hand was palm sized crystal that gave off a mystical glow with mist like essence swirling inside.

"This is an Elemental Affinity Crystal, it has the ability to check what your body is in tune with from nature, this allows one to gauge what their affinity is. Before we start, there are large numbers of people in this world that can't regulate their mana circuits. Because of this they can not use magic. Very few people can actually use magic and is mainly found within the nobility. So dear don't feel disappointed if you can't use magic."

'Hmm...so just the nobility can use it. That would make sense on how they can keep control over their various domains and people.'

"I understand."

Tina's lips curved up into a warm smile before enlightening Drake on a way to skip around this problem.

"There are artifacts out there can do all of that for you. From the collection of energy to creating attacks or defenses but these are usually expensive."

'Hoooo....this is indeed good news. If I can somehow figure how energy is created...hehe...the world will be in for a surprise. This scientist will blow their minds up...metaphorically and literally..hehe'

Tina looked at Drake strangely after his shoulders started to shake and a grin that appeared on his face but she figured Drake was just excited. Drake appraised the stone in her hand and concluded that the Element Affinity Crystal must also be an artifact. After giving him the basic instructions Drake laid his hand on the side of the crystal and felt a warm sensation running through his body.

When the warm sensation receded into crystal in Tina's hand a slightly grey mist began to swirl inside. Even through a minute the grey color only came more apparent. Tina had to force herself to maintain a smile as she was inwardly crushed that he couldn't use magic.

"Ahem...well dear it seems you do not have a magical affinity."

Drake did not seemed to bothered by this. After all, his previous life never had magic but that wasn't what he was thinking. The idea to use Aether Energy in inventions was slowly creeping into his mind rather than using magic itself. Instead Drake had another question on his mind that he had to have cleared up.

"Madam Tina, what are you and Hailey's affinity if I may ask? Also what are all possible affinities?"

"Fufu~ Hailey why don't we show him what are affinities are?"

Hailey who had been unusually quiet this time burst forth with energy. Her smile radiating pureness and happiness. Her emerald eyes sparkling as if a galaxy was in them because her excitement was so high.

"Hehehe, ok mother! Drake make sure you watch my awesome display!"

Drakes did not know whether to laugh or cry at her statement. Drake couldn't help but think she was untainted. A fairy that had yet to see the darkness of society while being protected here at the estate. Instead he kept his words to himself and just nodded which elicited a beautiful smile. Hailey's smile was almost the exact replica of her mothers.

Hailey took a few steps back and closed her eyes. She began to regulate her mana circuits pulling in worldly Aetheric Energy. A light blue mist began to form around her young curvaceous body before she opened her eyes and got down into a martial pose with her left foot in front of her right she bent down slightly to gain balance and let out a right punch. During the movement blue fire began to form around her arm as she let out her strongest punch out to the middle of the training field. When her arm reached the point of full extension a loud boom resounded as the blue ball of fire continued forward for a couple of meters before dispersing.

Hailey turned around with a wide grin on her face and puffed out chest as if she is asking for praise. Tina gave a few claps before commenting.

"Well done dear."

"Hehe~"

Hailey then looked at Drake asking for his praise as well. Drake just let out a sigh and smiled.

"That was awesome."

"I know right!"

Hailey had a slight blush appear on her cheeks while averting her gaze from Drakes crimson eyes.

"Fufu~ now it's my turn."

Tina began to sensually raise her arm above her head while her emerald eyes had a flash of determination as if she had to one-up her daughter. When her hand reached its peaked she began to swirl her body while her arm came slowly down. Blue fire began to dance around her body in a mystical spiral pattern. With complete control she seemed to have turned into the goddess of fire. Her hair looked like fine threads of gold and her emerald eyes had a slight green glow to them. The blue fire danced around her body as if it was alive. Her white dress fluttered in the wind while gaining a slight blue hue. The spiral fire rose high into the sky and spread out of the ground creating a spiral tower of blue flames.

Drake was in awe of such a beautiful move of magic. Compared to Hailey who had use it in an attack, Tina used it to show the magnificence of magic. Drake was incomparably excited to see what he could make with magic after such a stunning show of power and elegance.

'Truly the daughter of a duke family. Even I can tell the difference between to the mother and daughter's skill in magic. But the older you are the more experience so it makes sense.'

When the fire faded Tina walked back up to the slightly stunned Drake who still had not taken his eyes off of Tina.

"Fufu~ did you enjoy the show?"

With a wink Drake could only meekly nod wondering how Tina could be so alluring. John and Tina had four children but she seemed still quite young. Drake concluded that magic must have a positive effect on the appearance of the body because through all today he still had not figured out she could still look so young. Although Tina gave a warm and motherly aura that seemed to have sheltered multiple storms she never showed it and only projected the feeling of acceptance and love.

Back near the stables multiple men in green and white uniforms were gearing up to go on an expedition. Along with packs for long distance traveling Drake was curious what they were doing. Tina seemed to notice his gaze.

"They are going to explore Hunter Mountain Range for more resources for the barony."

A flash of inspiration passed through Drake's crimson eyes as he turned to look at Tina.

"Would they mind if I went along?"

Tina seemed too hesitate. Drake just got up this morning and she was still worried about his health. With no memory and weakened body state she was about to say that he should take it slow and rest but was interrupted when John spoke up first.

"HAHA, boy you got guts! Well there shouldn't be any dangers so you can come along. We are just going up to the base of the mountains for a few days and coming back. The Royal army is coming back from an expedition from the Claw Islands in a week so it won't take too long! We will be back before then."

'Royal army, huh...'

"Thank you, Sir John."

John just gave a simple nod before turning around and giving instructions to his men to prepare another horse and gear for the trip. Hailey seemed to be pouting and Tina kept her mouth shut. Drake said his goodbyes before walking over to the expedition group.
