Chapter 66 - Ballad

Loaren was a kind-hearted person. Everyone in the family knew about his talent being mediocre. But everything has changed over the years. Despite his talent and skills, he happened to join the biggest guild in the land. The Blue Moon, also called the adventure guild protected him. He happened to join a powerful guild and the members of the guild do care about him and protected him.

After those years he became stronger than before. He became an archer. Not many people choose the profession because it was somehow risky to use a bow and arrow when engaging in close combat. The archer has to maintain a certain distance from the enemy and themselves. It works just like a mage. In a party, the mages will be shielded by the knights while the mages use group attack spells to finish the opponents.

Fate was not kind always. The world doesn't work by the way of fulfilling the wishes of people. Two years after the reunion one night when June was sleeping on her bed suddenly she felt the presence of someone in her room and jumped off her bed. But the man who stalked was long gone leaving a note. When she read the note her body became numb. She felt her heart will pound no more. Her hands were frozen and she fell back on the bed in utter shock. She couldn't believe it. She doesn't want to believe it. Her eyes filled with tears. But the tears in her eyes were frozen and not able to drip off. She sat without any moment till the daybreak.

The note said "Sister I am sorry. Keep yourself up. Be strong. My day came to an end. I am no more in this World. Kee..." The note was unfinished and drenched in blood. The fingerprints and palm prints marked with blood covered the whole parchment. It was not parchment but a piece of cloth. The letters were shabby like a child would have written them. It was written with blood. They were not well organized and not clearly written. They were written in a wavering way instead of in a straight line. Despite the ugliness and the shabby letter June saw the person who wrote it. It was Loaren who wrote the letter. This was the last thing she could imagine. She remembered Harry promising her that he would protect her brother. But now it seems he couldn't keep up his promise. He cannot because Loaren was dead. She became so furious and cursed Harry for not keeping his promise. She cried and yelled at him. She lamented and blabbered. She recalled the moments she had with her brother but unfortunately, every lovely moment she had with her brother was shared with Harry. She started to cry because she was left all alone now.

The next day the family informed her that she have received a new proposal and will be engaged in a month. When she heard that she became depressed and disappointed. But fortunately, the proposal was withdrawn at the last moment from the other side without any reason. But some rumors spread that the young man who proposed to marry June was injured in a dual with a wanderer and lost the bet resulting in the cancellation of the engagement.

After a few days, she somehow managed to subdue her woe. She felt lonely. She used to receive letters from her brother in the past. She received letters no more. She almost spends her days in agony but the elders of her family didn't even consider her feelings and continued to force her to join with other families. She didn't want to be with them. She hated her family to the core. She can never forgive her family for her brother's death. she blamed the elders and the members of her family for her brother's death.

If not for the family forcing her brother to leave he could never have joined the Blue Moon. If he haven't joined the adventurous guild he could have never been in dangerous situations. She knew that being an adventurer is always a risky one. She knew this day would come. But she never dared to imagine the day would arrive very quickly. The words of his brother seemed very mature after those years of hardships he faced when he was chased out. His words never sounded like a foolish or scared person but brave and energized. He always boasted about the mind-blowing situations he went through. After many days of thoughts and reconsideration, June fixed something in her mind.

She escaped the bounds of her family and ran away to the place that Harry once mentioned to her. She found Harry after a few days of search. When she saw him she couldn't believe him. Harry ignored her and didn't even show himself any familiarity with her. She was very disappointed and she felt that she was betrayed. The thought of him rejecting her really made her life a mess. When they met and had a chat while June tried her best to let him consider her to be with him. "Why are you here?" his cold voice resounded in her ears but she bore with it. "I am... I am here for you," she said while her voice resembled the sadness her heart carried. She lowered her head and waited for his reply. Harry clearly knew what he should do but he rejected her. He didn't even change his face while speaking with her. "Looking for me. Why should you look for me? June please go home" he said with a dead tone. June's lips pursed and her teeth chewed the flesh on the lower lips. Her face became stressed and her body became tense. Her jaws became rigid. She felt that Harry has backstabbed her. But she doesn't want to give up. After all, she was not the one who was mourning the loss she had. "Harry..." she started but "June... go home" a slightly raised muscular voice interfered with her. Her heart became heavier and her respiratory system gasped for air. She lovered her voice "I love you" she said with an embracing and broken tone. But Harry turned deaf to those words and said "June please..." He didn't complete his sentence because he saw June being frozen in her place. Her head was lowered and her eyes pointed to the ground. When she came back to her senses Harry was long gone. She couldn't take it. She felt like she was crushed and her whole world was crumbled.

She told him everything she endured and even opened her heart to him. But he didn't even respond to her. That made her very angry as well as sad. She started to cry but she never made a sound. Tears flowed when she recalled the event but wiped them quickly as much as she could. She didn't choose to get drunk instead she wandered the streets and then came to a vast land of trees and bushes.

Of course, it was a forest but she didn't seem to care. She walked as if she was a lifeless person. She was unaware of the threat waiting to ambush her. But suddenly a hand pulled her out of nowhere. Before even recognizing what happened she was pressed towards the trunk of a tree. When she came to her senses she saw a huge hand was choking her against the tree. She couldn't move her body. Her body felt numb. "June Frey. We are sorry to let you go through this. Bear with it. You will bring a great benefit to our family" as the words entered her ears her heartbeat raised. Not because of the words but the voice. It was very familiar to her. The elders of her Frey family. They wanted her to marry the man who was choking her. Now if he can have his way with June when she was in a state in which she cannot fight he will have no obstacles to marrying her. For the alms, the man would offer for the elders and members of the family which they call benefits they agreed to let the man have June.

"You..." she couldn't speak. "Don't worry it won't be painful" a broad but terrible voice found its way into her ears. He was in his thirties. Even before she could clearly see the face of her assaulter, something splashed on her face that made her eyes close. Within a breath of time, she was on her foot and the choking hand seemed to lose its strength. She heard the sound of wind tearing apart. She touched the splattered droplets on her face. When she opened her eyes she was shocked to see the thick red stains on her hands. She was shocked and raised her head only to see the man who assaulted her was lying on the ground without his head.

She was not shocked for seeing her assaulter lying dead but the man who slew him. She could see a long curvy blade was placed between her and the others. "You stupid hunter get away from this place" a loud elderly but cocky voice cursed him. Her heart rate went high when she saw his face.

It was Harry who was following her the whole time. "He touched her so I lead him to hell. All of you will be going with him" a loud voice echoed the whole area. The voice only the resemblance of anger and killing intent. It was a close call for her but she was safe now. No one in the group agreed in the group to let go of June. So harry had to fight with them. But the result was rather terrible than victory. June has never seen Harry lose his cool but she saw that his eyes were bloodshot and popped out. The nerves on his neck made their debut on that day. He slashed everyone present there. He killed the one who assaulted her and the people who helped the assaulter. He left no one alive. He only stopped when June horrifyingly called out her name.

"Harry" she called him at top of her lungs. She was horrified at the view. He calmed himself when he heard the sound of June which resounded like a feard lamb. She hugged him to let him make sure that she is ok. It also resembled her 'thanks' to him. June hesitated to leave him. She forced him to take her in. With no way around Harry had to take her in and that happened six years ago.
