Chapter 15 - A word of mouth - Advice that stay with us for generations to come

It started one day, the Big Day was finally to come true. A big celebration where two souls seal a deal that will last for ever, no matter if rains or snows, still keep us together. Like a strong maple tree, will never ever fall if they have strong roots. Love and understanding are the ingredients reat for a great marriage. Also with that comes a great food balanced diet. We never considered ourselves totally fit, but we tried.

So the big day was approaching, most of the planning was under controlled. A simple ceremony, few invitees. We wanted something intimate. Not a large crowd. We like to keep low profile. No matter how small weddings are, they are always the centre of the attention. There's always the unique happy couple that plans their unique getaway. Our big plan was to save for the house. Our big investment. Our home sweet home. All totally for us.

The Cake Symbolizes Prosperity, Good Luck and Fertility. The wedding cake symbolizes prosperity, good luck and fertility and is made of the best ingredients available so that the marriage will be long lasting, happy and with many offspring.

I remember back in the day, wedding cakes - and still do, not only had one layer. Minimum 3 layers. The taller, the better. If I remember it was usually the 2 or 3rd layer that contained several ribbons in it.

Each ribbon tied to a ring. Whom ever pulled the chosen ribbon would find a big surprise: a ring at the end of the ribbon. The way it was made, we counted 6 maid of honours. Therefore for this game we asked our baker how to incorporate that game in the wedding cake. He is so genius, he said he was to include on the 3rd tier or layer, to put 8 different loose satin laces randomly put along the front of the wedding cake. One of them had a ring similar to the brides ring. Only bridesmaids were allowed to pull the ribbons from the cake. I ve seen that game played on other weddings. This was going to be an interesting game, plus a gift for the bridesmaids.

The groomsmen had a different contest. They had to pull the bride's garter with their own teeth when a song was played. Everyones loved that game. A classic for all weddings.

But we decided to include a little twist. The wedding cake, in the middle layer was to be a chocolate cake, inside, to please all the chocolate lovers amongst the invited to the wedding.

Ou perfect wedding cake was finalized, with game and entertainment included. And a yummy cake, with normal wedding decorations. The chocolate cake inside was not for any reason to reveal its wonderful sparkling surprise.

A beautiful shiny ring was waiting at the end of the ribbon, waiting to be discovered, proudly worn and worn at every party and special occasions. Obviously a way lesser value than the wedding ring but same attractive design.

Everyone that came to the wedding were looking forward to this event. It was like the alternative of throwing the bride's bouquet backwards to the group of young women, and why not all women brave enough to participate. Some times it was taken as a sign of a wedding soon to happen or an engagement.

Nice and cute tradition. Unfortunately many of these wedding games have disappeared. Perhaps to the urgency of the couple to start their honeymoon. Yep.

But still the invited friends and family continued celebrating. More drinks and music as a thank you note for coming to the wedding and the gifts given to the bride and groom.

The top layer as well as the bottom layer were butter pecan cakes, so they won't tell through the fondant where the ring is hiding.

Having both parties agreed with how the wedding cake d sign snd how many layer to be and where the surprises were hidden, we left our baker do his job to present to us his final piece of art.

The usual nervousness and flying of butterflies in the stomach east gets a hold of us.

I was on edge. This a super special day for me. I'm f*ing getting married! I want this day to be perfect. No flaws.

The big yes happens. The 'you can now kiss the bride' is the announcement we all brides waited for.

A rain of rice is awaiting for us. Rice symbolizes fertility and prosperity. Not much because it makes a mess and somebody can slip and fall. And it's bad for the birds.

Ok; back to the wedding after party, the much anticipated 'wedding games' are about to begun. The bridesmaids take one ribbon each and pull it away from the cake. Some came out easily quick, but Mona, our best friend, was the winner. The next year she got engaged and did the same game. This time I didn't participate.

The game was for singles only, and we were expecting our first child.

The guys were lucky.

They still got to ppl at their game!

It was amazing to see all big group of people getting together after a long, long time. Many of them were just single or just had kids.

Now their kids grown up, their parents happily together.

Something the newly weds were looking forward to.

We could see that sparkle on their eyes like when else first met.
