Chapter 23 - Getting The Rest Of The Materials

"How do I get a guide then?" Landria Inquired with an inquisitive expression.

"I could point you to one that would take you around the city... I think he charges two copper coins per hour," Old man Croan stated.

"That's great," Landria said but old man Croan was not finished yet.

"Or, I could guide you myself for free," Old man Croan added.

"Oh... wouldn't that be too much trouble?" Landria asked.

"Not at all, it is no big deal to help out a faithful customer," Old man Croan stated.

"You have my appreciation," Landria said with a tone of gratitude.

"Let me just close up shop, I shall join you in soon," Old man Croan voiced out before heading in.

-

Minutes later both of them headed south of the town which was where the western border of Barbaois City was located.

There was a small stream of water that extended from the far east, across the front of walls of Barbaois city.

A massive wooden platform extended from the City's gate to the beginning of the town area which gave people access to move across it.

Landria and Old man Croan crossed the wooden platform which was like a small bridge and arrived at the massive seventy feet tall gate of the city.

It was wide open as expected but guards in yellow armor could be seen stationed in front and even on the city walls.

Caravans and carriages could be seen on lines by the right while people who were looking to get in were lined on by the left. Some had merchandise with them and others did not.

"Two silver pieces for a person," One of the guards voiced out to Landria and Old Man Croan as they arrived in front of the line after queueing up for some time.

Landria was about to reach for his pouch when old Man Croan suddenly stretched out his hand and passed four silver pieces to the guard.

"You two may pass," The guard voiced out while moving aside.

"I wan..." Landria was about to say something when old Man Croan interrupted.

"Don't worry about it, come on Let's go," He gestured with a nod while moving forward.

Landria swallowed the words he was about to spit out and quickened his pace to catch up to old man Croan.

"Thank you," He voiced out once more.

"It is not a problem," Old man Croan said as they passed through the gate arriving on the other side.

What appeared in their line of sight was a bustling street with people moving around the place and carts being pushed by beasts or horses.

They walked further and could see the splendor of the city. Castles and well-structured massive buildings could be seen all about the place.

Guards in yellow armor were stationed at different parts and guarding different gates of castles across the vicinity.

Even though the streets were teeming with people everything still seemed organized.

The City seemed to have been built on a slope as Landria could see that the further the roads extended, the higher they went.

He could see a well-structured area in the distance with a red and yellow color. It looked fairly majestic and was quite massive and tall with several other small buildings of a similar structure positioned on its four corners.

It looked like a statue was also positioned by the side but from the distance, it was impossible to see the place properly.

Other structures could not compare to it even though there were many well-built castles clustered together that could be seen in the distance as well.

On the eastern part of the city, a three-headed tower could be seen and it was at least four times the size of Clearksy town's library.

Landria kept looking around the place as they walked but he was still intrigued by the massive majestic structure in the distance.

"That is where the Varoni household lies," Old man Croan seemed to have spotted him looking in that direction multiple times, and decided to voice out.

Landria suspected that this was the case initially and old man Croan's words just confirmed his suspicions.

It was nothing compared to Razledania Kingdom's palace grounds which was like a small city in itself but he felt the Varoni's household area still looked pretty big.

Lord Varoni was the ruler of Barbaois City which meant, the birthday ceremony would be held in those majestic structures that had caught his sight.

"Based on the list of the four items you've shown me, I know where we should check first," Old man Croan voiced out as he walked towards a carriage up ahead.

Since the city was really large they had to use a carriage to get to farther places or it would take too long if they decided to walk.

---

About three hours later, Landria had managed to acquire two of the items needed and was currently in another location trying to acquire the third.

Old man Croan and Landria currently stood in the midst of a marketplace where stalls were not set, instead, different items were placed on tables and stationed on the ground as well.

Some people even stood and held the goods they were selling in their hands.

This was one of the poor areas in the city with over hundreds of traders trying to make ends sell merchandise.

Some were even yelling out the items they were selling trying to attract customers. Several people were also selling similar products making it harder to get customers.

"Guard your money pouch well, there are usually small thieves lurking around these parts," Sir Croan advised as they moved through this rowdy market area.

Landria took note of this and made sure to avoid making bodily contact with anyone even though the place was really crowdy.

They had been directed here from another location where they went to look for one of the items Landria needed since it was unavailable in the previous place.

"Young sir, would you like to try the transmission juel box? You can send messages from far away by inputting your mana into this..."

"Mister this only cost fifteen copper pieces, get a magic repellant trinket here..."

One could occasionally see one or two people carrying staff moving around. It was obvious that even some magic casters visited this place.

After looking about the place for a while they finally found a place where potions were being sold. The third item was potion-related so they needed to get a particular material used in making healing magic potions.

"Seven grams of the lascris powder?" The man selling the potions asked with a tone of confirmation.

"Yes," Landria confirmed.

"One gram is priced thirty copper pieces, you will be paying a sum of two hundred and ten copper pieces for seven grams... I am not too sure I have up to seven grams in my possession but I will see what I can gather," The trader voiced out before asking Landria and Old man Croan to wait for him. He left the vicinity a few moments later.

"Coming through... out of my way peasants!" A loud scowl was heard from the side as a buff man dressed in green platted armor walked forward with a young girl clad in one strapped green gown beside him.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

He kept hitting people out of the way as the young blonde haired girl beside him walked smoothly with everyone being at least five feet away from her.

The shoulder force of this seven feet tall bulky man was so heavy that a little collision knocked several people flying earlier.

This made people part ways before she arrived at their position since he seemed to be clearing the path for her.

Bam!

Old man Croan was hit out of the way unexpectedly, causing him to crash against the table by the side.

"Out of my way old man!" The bulky green armored man voiced out as he kept stomping forward.

All of a sudden...

Grab!

"Huh?" The green armored man paused in his track and slowly turned around as he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"You hit my friend, apologize," Landria said while gesturing at old man Croan who was picking himself up behind.

"It is fine," Old man Croan said as he stood to his feet.

"No, he has to apologize for doing that," Landria said with an unrelenting tone as he stared at the bulky man.

"He was in my way and now you are!" The bulky man shouted before trying to headbutt Landria.

Landria moved slightly to the side as he saw the attack and thrust two of his right fingers out before chanting some words, "Wind Variation... level seven,"

the moment he voiced that out, a magic circle appeared on the ground and wind suddenly blasted forth from the ground.

Fwhhhiiiii~

The intense force of the wind lifted the bulky man into the air and Landria proceeded to swipe his two fingers towards the left, controlling the outburst of wind.

The wind carried the bulky man towards the left, causing him to slam into a building many feet away

Bang!

-"Did he just cast a level seven wind spell so quickly?"

-"Who is that mage?"

-"He better be ready for the consequences since he just dealt with a Stalon house knight,"

-"See how good he looks, he must be a big shot himself,"

The people in the vicinity voiced out in the background. The girl clad in the green gown had a look of astonishment on her face as she stared at Landria.

At this moment the potion seller returned with Landria's desired product and passed it to him. Understanding what had just gone down, he asked Landria to pay up and quickly leave this place before they came for him.

"May I know your name?" The young girl who looked to be around thirteen years of age asked Landria after he turned around to leave.

"My name is no business of yours," Landria responded before leaving with old man Croan.
