Sabrina had an impulse to tear the divorce agreement into a thousand unrecognisable pieces but decided against it. She had to keep her sister away from this excuse of a man. "What a scumbag!"
Aside from that, she had her own selfish reason for hoping the divorce goes through as Emily would have to stay with her in T City with the kids.
She gets to see the kids every day from henceforth. She will also hear the cry of babies in her home. That will be a million times better than her occasional visits and having to see the face of Gerald scumbag Flynch.
Sabrina called Vicker immediately she was out of Gerald's sight and narrated the whole situation to him. She was concerned that she may need more time and a lot of coaxing to convince her husband to permit her sister to stay with them at home.
Vicker was stumped for words and immediately promised to renovate the baby room at their home to fit the three babies, after which he will personally receive them at the airport upon Emily's discharge.
Had it not been for Sabrina's protest, Vicker would have destroyed the scumbag with a snap of his fish finger. What movie director? That is just a passtime. What Vicker Hastings really is, is the crowned king of the underworld in T City that no one dares to cross.
After hanging up the call, Vicker took quite a while to process the information and thereafter happily made contact with the best interior designer in the whole of T City. He couldn't help feeling like a fresh daddy. Coincidentally, the designer who happened to have a full schedule chose to make space to immediately accommodate Vicker because he was a die-hard fan of the award-winning movie director.
As a result, when Vicker speaks with Sabrina the next day, she will be filled with indescribable joy to realize that the house was ready for the kids' arrival, what's more, her beloved husband is not against the idea in the slightest bit.
At the moment, however, Sabrina had tears in her eyes as she stared at her sleeping sister and her adorable little ones. She kept contemplating on how to break the news to Emily when she saw Emily's hawk-like eyes staring at her out of the blue.
Sabrina knew there and then that there was no avoiding the topic because her sister could already tell that she was hiding something.
Being the bad liar that she was, Sabrina resolved to go with the easier route while betting on the belief that "the sooner she comes clean with her sister, the better it is for both of them"
Certain things are better seen than said. For that matter, Sabrina encouraged her sister to eat the home-cooked meal she brought along after which she dropped the agreement before her.
Emily could swear for a moment there she saw red and decisively closed her eyes to escape the hard reality before her. When she finally opened her eyes again, Emily asked Sabrina for a pen after which she signed her portion, returned the document to Sabrina and closed her eyes to sleep.
Sabrina watched on as her sister became a divorcee on the day which was supposed to be her happiest after going through the arduous journey of childbirth. She resolved in her heart to make sure the kids never lack anything as long as she lives.
The two siblings spent their time planning what to do after Emily's discharge the next day. They reminisced about their childhood and certain embarrassing moments of Emily which found their way into the conversation.
Emily knew what her sister was trying to do but didn't bother exposing her. She was just trying to cheer her up after all. Sabrina felt that her sister's responses were becoming more and more strained and chose to leave her to rest as she also goes about her chores.
Gerald was sitting on pins when he reached his office as he was imagining the weird demands Emily may put forth in an attempt to drag the divorce to earn more benefits from him.
Surprisingly, Emily gave her assent without the slightest complaint.
Sabrina thereafter acted swiftly by hiring and supervising personnel of a moving company to move every bit of her sister's belongings from Gerald's house at the same time that Gerald received his package.
His eyes nearly fell from their sockets. All his planned speeches and a thousand reasons to convince Emily became a joke as she signed the documents faster than he could ever imagine. Did Emily have a prior plan to divorce him or what? He just couldn't get it.
In recognition of Emily's sacrifices over the years, Gerald gave her a lot of money as compensation but was unwilling to part with his shares in the company.
He was quite generous in giving her the benefits he thought she deserved.
He probably could have accused Sabrina of forging her sister's signature but he knew his wife's signature too well to cause a scandal for no reason. Gerald thought he will feel a sense of achievement or some relief but surprisingly, he felt hopelessly empty upon laying eyes on the divorce agreement before him.
Emily on the other hand laid in her bed with her eyes still closed and her back towards the door as the kids were left in the care of three ever-willing nurses.
Her whole life flashed before her eyes and she realized her days mostly revolved around Gerald after she met him.
Her career, her friends, her taste in fashion, her speech, even her time was all spent on the man who had no problem with letting her go on the day she delivered their triplets. Emily thought about the many things she could have done differently.
She could have become a medical doctor while pursuing art alongside like she always wanted. She wouldn't have had to give in to the unnecessary demands of certain partners before they collaborated with Gerald. She wouldn't have birthed her children without a father figure in their life. Her heart felt bitter and she was tempted to vomit blood.
Emily felt extremely tired for no apparent reason, so she decided to sleep, but this time, for real.
Emily Flynch slept on her hospital bed with her back towards her children and the nurses caring for them while shutting her eyes, never to open them again.
No one knew at that moment that she bade farewell to a world that really made her tired, albeit unwillingly.
