Chapter 3 - An Eventful Evening

As Varys and Maric retired to their bedrooms after the dinner and as most nights they both practiced their respective Sutras. Varys sat cross-legged upon a small upholstered cushion and released his aura, ink like smoke containing gleaming red veins which looked to be pulsing with energy enshrouded his body wrapping and warping around his shoulders and abdomen.

For such a life like aura and fine control of it displayed Varys' prowess and skill, The Sutra he practiced was the Duality Sutra accompanied and modified by the renown Lord Sutra. The Duality Sutra allowed poly elemental users to display greater might by mimicking a mock fusion of elements when in reality it simply allows the integration of different elements, while the Lord Sutra which is only given to Lords Hall members is a complementary Sutra that alters the limitations of your base Sutra sometimes giving way to unique powers among those of the Lords Hall.

Across the manor in Maric's dimly lit room he sat cross-legged as well upon his bed, his brow gathering sweat as he practiced the Elemental Sutra. Inside his body his mana pool was rapidly surging and shining with an energy that looked like black onyx, he focused and tried to circulate it in his being as he did he realised that there was such a vast amount of essence he would surely fail to absorb it all before becoming exhausted.

"I need more time! This could be my affinity awakening!" Maric exclaimed.

As he spoke those words aloud the hazy blue mist appeared on his skin, emanating and swirling around him. He could not see this because he was so focused on staying conscious, As it crept near his face and eyes it began to settle in certain places; His cheeks both in intricate lines ending near his jaw, His forehead donned a crescent moon pattern and across his nose a straight line. He looked like a miniature divine being meditating under a pale blue moonlight. Internally the energy wrapped around the dense orb of essence and dissolved it quickly into his body. Maric had actually passed out at this point but the mysterious energy practically finished up for him. Before fading the mist glowed with power and the markings took on an incandescent purple hue, when the light settled it looked like it had transformed into tattoos that simply retreated back into his skin..

Varys finished up his Sutra and sensed another aura flare up. "Maric? But he's only 10? Most kids practice the Elemental Sutra at least for another 3 or 4 years.." Varys questioned himself and what he had felt but it was no mistake. As he walked to Maric's room he saw the boy asleep on his bed fully clothed and soaked in sweat.

"What a tough child. I truly admire you my boy" Varys whispered as he patted Maric's silver hair. He then performed a sensory spell of the darkness element known as Observe. It conjured an eye made of shadows that was capable of sensing and recording energy, it began to focus and relay information about Maric and the following report stated..

Maric Arelle

Rank B Magic Quality & Conversion Rate

Affinity: Yin-Fire, (UNKNOWN?)

… Error secondary energy pool found..

(Unknown cannot quantify)

Varys looked utterly shocked, not only was Maric a mage born with fusion magic but an unknown source of energy as well. His rank B status at age 10 was monstrous as well, Even Varys himself did not attain rank B until 13 after the academy nursed his talents but just with the elemental sutra alone his child did so. But something on his face indicated he was not very surprised..

"Oh Tali.. I wish that you could see him. I wish that we could figure this situation out together.." Varys whispered.

This unexpected challenge was something he had foreseen since Maric was a baby, He knew his child was different but he in truth it was a conversation he never wanted to have with Maric. How could he even explain? Varys gritted his teeth and turned his back to his sleeping son while calming his tormented mind.

Varys entered his room as his gaze directly fell upon his chair that he always sat in. He wandered towards it with a reminiscent gaze in his eyes, for some reason he had fond feelings when smelling the familiar Amaranthe pine it was made from.

When he finally sat he sighed and glanced towards the numerous black and gold gilded scrolls on the table beside him he was reminded of his duties at hand. He began to read through all the updates and missives provided by the Lords Hall before drifting off into a deep sleep in his chair..
