Commissioner David Oswalt: Hey, Monroe, got a domestic disturbance call. Need you and Reid to check it out. I'll send you the address.
Trevor and Chris Reid are on patrol as they head to what appears to be an apartment complex on a very bad side of the city where alot of muggings and robberies take place along with some drug trades and is known for gang activity. The two enter the building, head up to the fourth floor and approach the fifth unit on the left. Trevor knocks on the door and calls out, but they get no answer. They both draw their guns and Chris kicks the door in as they enter the apartment. They scan everywhere and find nobody inside. In fact, the whole unit seems to have been abandoned.
Chris Reid: Dispatch, there's no one here. You sure we have the right address?
Dispatcher: One moment, let me check.
A soft thud comes from the closet in the small hallway. The two draw their guns to it and slowly approach it. On the count of three, Trevor yanks the door open and a decent sized rat comes scurrying out, startling the two men.
Chris Reid: Damn rodents. Let's get out of here. There's nothing.
The two officers leave the building to their patrol car.
Commissioner David Oswalt: Monroe, come in?
Trevor Monroe: Go ahead, sir.
Commissioner David Oswalt: That is the right address. I double checked and the site you are currently at is correct. Are you sure you went to the right apartment?
Trevor Monroe: 420, right?
Commissioner David Oswalt: Yes, that is correct.
Trevor Monroe: Yeah, there was-
Trevor is suddenly cut off when the windows are shattered and both Trevor and Chris are pulled out of the car by a group of masked men. The men begin mugging them until Chris, using his martial arts skills, starts to fight back giving Trevor the chance to aid him and the two get the upper hand until a more larger man shoulder tackles Chris to the ground and lifts Trevor off the ground before slamming him down hard. Chris goes to help his partner, but is quickly overwhelmed by three of the men, using melee weapons to beat him down, then use his handcuffs to cuff him to door handle. Trevor goes to stand up but is knocked back down by being kicked in the ribs. The men viciously beat Trevor up, throwing brutal punches and kicks while continuing to use their melee weapons. The larger man of the group lifts Trevor off the ground and slams his face into the back window then against the roof of the car. Bloodied and spitting blood, Trevor becomes weak from the beating as the men constantly keep beating him until one of them takes a bowie knife and stabs him in the leg with it. Trevor lets out a scream of agony, causing Chris to come to and desperately tries to free himself but to no avail.
Chris Reid: Trevor!
Chris struggles to break free from the restraints as two of the masked men pick Trevor up and hold him as the large man repeatedly punches him in the midsection then takes the knife and stabs him two times in the stomach.
Chris Reid: Stop! Trevor! Fuck!
Chris continues to yell and struggle, but can't do anything except watch his partner and friend slowly being beaten and stabbed to death. The stab wounds, however, are not fatal but are bleeding profusely.
Hitman: Enough.
The men back off and Hitman, dressed in white suit, reveals himself to him and approaches a battered and bloodied Trevor, keeping his hands firmly behind his back. Chris can see that Hitman is holding a pistol with a silencer attached to it.
Chris Reid: He's got a gun! Trevor, he's got a gun!
But he is quickly silenced with a punch to the face.
Hitman: You've been making quite the rounds around here. I must say, I admire your courage and will to bring Mr. Galloway to justice.
Hitman begins walking in circles around Trevor, keeping his hands behind him as Trevor struggles to breathe.
Hitman: But, I am here to break the news of how you failed. You see, Mr. Galloway, doesn't take too kindly to those interferring with his business and you've heard of what happens to anyone who interferes with his personal life.
He continues, now standing in front of Trevor. Able to barely see him through his left eye as his right eye is swollen shut. He heard of the stories surrounding Roman and his personal hitman, Robert, and he always thought they were just made up, but now that he sees this hitman standing before him, he knows it is much too late.
Trevor Monroe: Go ahead. Do it. Do to me like you've done-
Trevor is instantly cut off when Hitman shoots him.
Hitman: I thought you would never ask.
Trevor's lifeless body falls onto the pavement as the sound of approaching sirens sends Hitman and his crew away as they climb into their black SUVs and drive away as several patrol units arrive.
Michael remains the only one at the shop after it closed an hour ago and checks his phone, but finds no return calls or even a text from Trevor. He calls his phone again, but like the last four times in the day, gets no answer.
Michael Monroe: Must be a very busy shift.
He goes back to finishing up a client's car when a pair of headlights pulling into the parking lot catches his attention. At first, he thinks it's Trevor and is preparing to chew him out for not answering his calls when he notices two officers stepping out of the car and neither of them are his brother. The expression on Michael's face changes because he knows what this means.
Michael Monroe: No.
The expression on their faces tell the whole story as one of the officers approaches, but Michael backs away.
Michael Monroe: Stay away. This is a sick joke, right? My- my brother put you up to this, right?
Not wanting to believe what is happening, Michael can feel the pain and sorrow starting to rise within him.
Officer: Mr. Monroe, you need to come with us. Your brother-.
They begin to explain, but Michael refuses to believe them.
Michael Monroe: Get the hell away from me! My brother is fine, there is nothing wrong!
Chris Reid: Michael!
Michael looks to see Chris, badly wounded, but alive climbing out from the backseat of the car.
Chris Reid: This isn't a joke, man. This is real.
The tears begin to form in Michael's eyes as Chris's face is still wet from crying.
Michael Monroe: No. No. No.
Still refusing to believe, but can see on their faces, in their eyes, this is all real, Michael takes out his car keys and climbs into his car to drive off towards the hospital with the officers following him. Once they arrive, Michael rushes out of his car and hurries inside as David arrives.
Michael Monroe: Excuse me, I'm here to see a Trevor Monroe. Is he here?
Michael asks one of the doctors, but gets no reply so he goes to the front desk and asks the same question.
Nurse: He's currently in the ER in surgery. Sir, you need to wait out here.
Michael ignores her and tries to go but is held back by the two officers and David while Chris is taken to be treated for his wounds.
Commissioner David Oswalt: Michael, come on, take it easy.
Feeling no other choice, Michael waits in the waiting room with the two officers and David. What appears to be forever, Kylie soon arrives and finds Michael and hurries over as she and Michael hug each other.
Kylie Monroe: How is he? Is he okay?
Michael just looks at her, because he doesn't have an answer for her when the doctor that performed the surgery comes out from the ER and approaches them. Michael can see on his face that it isn't good and prepares himself for the bad news.
ER Doctor: I take it you are Trevor's brother?
The doctor shaks his and Kylie's hands.
Michael Monroe: How is he, doctor?
ER Doctor: The stab wounds were far too great. He lost alot of blood and the pieces of the bullet impaled parts of his lungs and created led poisoning. It's slowly killing him and the pieces are so small we can't see them.
Shocked and shaken by this news, Michael's heart skips a few beats as he lets out gasps of shock and horror.
Michael Monroe: Is this the last time I will get to see my brother alive, doctor? Is that what you are saying?
ER Doctor: I'm afraid so. We did the best that we could, Mr. Monroe. I am terribly, terribly, sorry. He's barely awake, but you are free to go see him.
Together, both Michael and Kylie enter the room to find Trevor hooked up to a ventilator and various machines that are doing enough to keep him alive. Kylie ends up collapsing, but Michael is there to pick her up as they approach Trevor's bedside. Sobbing at seeing her husband in this condition, Kylie presses her head against his as the machine beeps softly.
Trevor Monroe: Michael.
His voice comes out so soft and very weak as Michael takes his hand into his. Hearing him struggling to breathe and weezing, Michael can't handle seeing him this way. Tears rolling down his face.
Michael Monroe: I should have been there. I should've fucking been there.
Trevor Monroe: No. You- you would've-
Trevor starts to say, but coughs. Not able to hold back, Michael breaks down crying as he falls to his knees, still holding onto his brother's hand.
Trevor Monroe: I should have listened.
Tears stream down Trevor's face as he feels that he has failed and this is his fate.
Michael Monroe: Don't worry about that right now. You did your job. You did your job.
Michael manages to pull himself back to his feet.
Trevor Monroe: Don't - don't ever lose sight of who you are. And don't, don't stop-.
Suddenly he flatlines and the grip on Michael's hand goes limp. Doctors and nurses rush in with a defibrillator machine as Michael and Kylie stand back while they watch them use the machine in an attempt to revive Trevor, but each time they shock him, he remains unresponsive and the heart monitor remains flatlined. After the fourth attempt fails, they declare Trevor deceased. Kylie breaks down sobbing and wailing as Michael holds her tightly, comforting her as one of the doctors writes down the official time of death on the death certificate. All Michael can do is just stare at his brother's lifeless corpse in front of him as one of the doctors covers his body with a blanket.
