Dagon and Sephtis stayed low to the ground, following closely behind Bellirick and Treasya, his dragon. About ten other dragons accompanied them, excluding Ellira.
The plan was that they would hide just beneath the earth within the crags where they could not be seen. Once the enemy dragons passed them and the battle begun at the gates, they would shoot out from their hiding place. Seven of them would ambush the enemy dragons at the gates, while the others would go to decimate the human soldiers before they could reach the castle.
Dagon and Sephtis were with the group in charge of decimating the human soldiers. He assumed it wouldn't be that difficult, and he understood why he'd been chosen for that job. His mercury spikes could cover a large area and easily eliminate most of the soldiers.
Ellira and Bella were part of the ambush group for the gates, which made sense. Her speed and power were perfect for that job.
Dagon honestly felt confident that they would be able to win this battle. It wasn't the one he was worried about.. he was mostly concerned with the Annuran forces.. he didn't want to have to fight Mourtas in a full scale war zone. He was certain he'd lose.
The crags were basically just small cracks in the earth that began to level out into a hiding spot with only a thin crack to see above them. It was dark and cold in there and, even when Sephtis laid on his stomach, Dagon had to duck low to fit without being struck by the ceiling.
As Dagon waited beside the others, he could see his own breath. He realized he was beginning to hyperventilate from adrenaline, but he quickly calmed himself, closing his eyes and focusing on slowing his heartbeat. He could hear it and feel it thrumming in his chest, but as he forced his breathing to slow, he could feel it begin to slow down more and more until it was a steady beat.
When he opened his eyes, he could see the first of the dragons fly overhead. He recognized that dragon. It's scales were a crimson red and it flew in lead of all the others.
"Stay low until I give the signal." Bellirick spoke.
"Be ready for anything. We don't know if they have any traps or counterattacks ready for us." Treasya growled.
Dagon looked down at his metallic hand. He flexed the fingers of it, then clenched his fist.
*I have to kill them.* he thought. *I don't have a choice..*
*Calm yourself, Dagon. They are the enemy, if we don't kill them, they will surely kill us. Keep that in mind.* Sephtis hummed.
*I know. I've prepared myself. I'm ready.* Dagon answered, setting his jaw.
They stayed like this for maybe three minutes, the dragons flying over their heads. Dagon lost count of how many there were, all of them adorned in the black armor of the four kingdoms, enslaving them. The fact that they were being forced to fight and die against their will pissed Dagon off and made his resolve stronger. He would kill the soldiers without remorse.
"NOW!" Bellirick roared, shooting out from the crag. The first group went first, following Bellirick towards the West gate behind the enemy, while Dagon shot out after them, flying in the opposite direction towards the soldiers. Five other dragons followed behind him.
The blistering wind beat against Dagon's face as he lifted his head, turning his eyes towards the soldiers on the ground below. Arrows were sent flung into the air towards Sephtis and the other dragons, but they deftly bounced off of the dragons' heavy armor. Sephtis and Dagon were covered head to toe in mercury armor.
Sephtis drew in a breath of air, hissing as he did, before releasing a spray of acid. A click came after, resulting in that wide range of acid exploding in super-heated flames the scorched the soldiers. The agonized screams echoed across the tundra as the men below burned away, rolling in the snow as the flames melted their flesh.
Dagon struck out his metal arm, the Drakeagen stones in it glowing as he casted his spell. The next moment, massive spikes of mercury exploded from the earth, decimating the soldiers, skewering them and ripping them apart as the spikes shot across the landscape.
The soldiers below let out a war cry and they brought forward large carriage-like mechanisms. Large spears were loaded into the machines, each of them black with dark Drakeagen in them.
*KRAKOOM*
They let fire, the black weapons exploding into the air. Sephtis banked right, spinning to avoid one of the spears as Dagon clung to tightly to his dragon.
*KRAKOOM*
The fire kept coming. One of the other dragons, a dark red one with black tips on his scales, rushed downwards. Red flames sprayed across the soldiers, consuming them and two of the machines, but the mechanisms seemed resistant to the flames. The rider of the dragon raised a sword above his head and then cracks split through the earth, flames and lava erupting from them.
Massive vines and roots erupted from the ground, brutalizing and crushing the soldiers as well as tearing apart the machines. Dagon looked behind him, seeing a green dragon above him and Sephtis, the rider drawing back an arrow in his bow. He let the arrow loose, which went flying towards the earth, striking through a soldier's skull. From that soldier, massive thorn-covered vines burst from his corpse, tearing apart any soldiers near him.
It wasn't even a fight at that point, it was more of an execution. The human soldiers stood no chance.
A man below let out a tremendous bellow, catching Dagon's attention. It was a large, brutish man in thick black armor. He carried a large axe over his shoulder, the blade having two Drakeagen in it. He heaved the weapon over his head, then brought it down to the earth, causing a massive gash to explode across the landscape. In the attack's path, the red dragon faltered, his wing being cut from his body as the dragon tumbled to the earth where he and his rider were then cut down by a horde of soldiers.
*Maybe this won't be that easy..*
