I sighed. I wasn't a morning person. I always found something to feel negative about in the morning, and the complete opposite at night.
At night I would think of a bright future, happy memories, appreciate the pillow under my head and the clothes on my body. But not now. Not in the morning. Now all I thought about was the negatives of the day ahead. My morning shift at Woolworths and my evening shift at McDonalds. I needed shopping.. What else? Ah. I was getting off work early to visit my grandmother in hospital today. She's really sick and I don't know how to help her.. Oh and my landlord is threatening to kick me out of my apartment because I can't afford to pay the rent on time. I sighed inwardly, I'd have to take up a part time job. Sometimes I wondered where the money went. I mean, I'll be honest, the only jobs I can pick up don't pay well, the owners rip me off because they know they can. But on top of all that I need to pay rent and bills. Maybe I should stop using my heater so often, the electrical bills are always high when I use the heater...
Okay, snap out of it! Before I need to face any of this, I have volunteer work to get to. Getting ready for work and the day ahead, I took a peak out the window and saw clear skies. Perfect. I lifted the window open and stuck my hand out. Chilly. I should rug up. So, slipping on my beanie, jacket, scarf, gloves and boots, I was officially ready, and I began my walk down the city streets.
The chilly morning air hit my face in waves as each car drove past, along with a spray of water that lay on the road from last night's rain. I pulled my knitted black scarf over my cheek closest to the road to protect it from the incoming cold. The light streams of sunlight shone through the clouds, bringing little warmth with it.
After a ten minute walk, I reached my destination. It was an old mechanic that'd been around for as long as I can remember. It was a bit small but functional and busy nonetheless.
Now, I wish I was working here and earning money for my expert mechanic skills, but unfortunately, I know little about cars and I was working here for free. Sounds odd, but I thought this could be an opportunity to finally settle at one job and earn good money, so, I offered them a deal after they rejected hiring me. I'd work for them for a month, every morning before work and by the end of the month, if I'm good enough, they have to hire me. They agreed thankfully. Although some mornings I wish they hadn't.
