Chapter 2 - A new start

Professor Milles had a few words for his experience with the neural system - it sucked a lot.

But seeing as how he had not been blown into pieces and had made it to the future without any problem, it was safe to say that it did work as intended.

And it was also far more powerful than anyone could have expected it to be.

And since Milles was alive after the travel, he had to check where he was and find out if his calculations had worked as intended.

The date on his phone showed 11th Feb 3065, which did indicate that he was in the future, just where he had intended to be.

It worked, the time jump. His fellow scientists had told him that it was impossible but Professor Milles had known it was possible all along. Going ahead in time was possible as long as the past remained unchanged.

And his mere presence here had proven that fact.

"Misha Raycraft, wake up now. Your foster parent is here to take you home with him" there was a knock on the door in front of him which indicated that it was time to get up now.

It took Milles a few seconds to get used to walking again, but once he did manage to get his feet under him, he was ready to walk out again.

The room he had arrived in was a small one, barely able to fit a grown adult. It only had a bed and a dresser inside it.

But there was a small mirror and it was enough for Milles to get a look at his new body.

The time jump had destroyed his original body but the new one should have been a replica of his original one. Milles had programmed the system to work in such a way after all.

His black hair and blue eyes remained unchanged but his body was shorter than his original one. He was also a lot younger, maybe even in his teens and that would be stretching his age by a lot.

Milles needed to gather information and he needed to gather it fast.

"Misha Raycraft, wake up now and take a shower. Mr. Raycraft would be here to pick you up soon and you better get used to your new name as well" the female voice and the knocking was back on his door.

Misha decided it was time to face the music. The female was not going anywhere till he answered her.

So opened the room and was faced with a woman's chest right in his face.

"You finally opened your door. Now go and take a shower. And don't even think about running away from me, or else" the threat was clear in the female's voice.

The woman wore clothes that looked distinctively church-like and he had a suspicious feeling about his circumstances from her words.

"Are you hearing what I said? Go and take a shower now" the female pushed at Milles and he finally decided to snap out of his daze.

He decided not to answer her, lacking the data on how to act. The female did not seem to mind it at all, she just pushed at him and Milles finally decided to go along with her wishes.

His dresser had only a few pairs of clothes so it made the choice easy enough.

Once he had his clothes, the sister took him to the back of the corridor and ushered him inside.

The shower was the perfect time for Milles to get familiarised with his body. It was a perfect replica of his original one, just a lot younger.

The neural system had done wonders for his situation.

After the shower, the sister led him back to his room and left him there. He had time to himself now and he decided to make use of it to gather information.

From the calendar on his phone, he knew which period he was in, but he had no information about himself and his situation.

So he decided to go hacking and the best place to do that would be the orphanage's system.

His room was unlocked and it helped Milles easily slip out. The orphanage was easy enough to navigate and he was in the main office in a matter of minutes.

There was no one around there as well, just him alone.

But he did not enter the room. There had to be some kind of security measure around this place.

Milles had tried to open his phone but the new tech was unfamiliar to him and left him for a loss. He had no idea how to operate it, much less get it opened safely.

So that would have to wait.

"Hey, what are you doing-. Oh, it's just you, the magicless weirdo. Are you here to make use of the computer again?" the voice scared Milles enough to make him jump a little.

When he looked around, his eyes met a guard who looked ordinary enough. There was nothing special about him, just a standard look in his eyes.

"Y-Yes?" Milles hesitated as he gave an answer but it caused the guard's harsh expression to soften up.

"Yeah, thought you would be around today to use it for the last time. Someone finally decided to adopt you, huh?" the guard asked with a gentle look on his face.

"Y-Yeah?" Milles still felt out of sorts but he was no longer scared of stepping inside the office. It seemed like it was something expected of him even.

The computer in front of him seemed like an advanced version of one he had used, just a few generations ahead of his own but the guard frowned at him.

"I don't know why you like using that antique piece when more advanced models are available in the digital library. Everyone knows it's just around because it had been a donation by madam Maria, our founder a long time ago" Milles felt his heartache at that name.

He wondered how Maria had done after he had left her alone in that world. Was it the same Maria, his sister, that had established this orphanage?

"Not in a mood to talk? Fine, take your time and make sure to close after you are done" the guard left and Milles finally had time to work around.

The computer, an antique, by all means, was still a little advance for Milles but he quickly adapted to its usage. It was easy enough and it gave him enough leverage to get more information.

He had a whole new identity in the future which helped him a lot.

His current name was Misha Raycraft, age 11, an orphan of the state but his parents have listed him as 'unknown.' The rest of it is basic information till you get to the end.

He was listed as a 'Type Null', someone incapable of using magic even with the neural system's aid and it limited his usage.

He was not the only one categorized as such, but he was the only one currently living in this orphanage.

And he was about to be adopted by the current president of the state, Mr. Raycraft as well. He did remember the sister saying something about this in the morning but he had not paid enough attention to her words.

"Ah, there you are. Hurry up and pack since the president would be here in an hour. You don't want to keep him waiting" the sister was back and she looked disappointed in him.

Milles did not know what her deal was but she seemed stuck on looking after him and keeping him in toe.

Frankly, it was a little irritating but he had to do his best not to react to her words.

He allowed her to drag him away, looking around the place as he moved. But he could not see any other children other than himself.

He seemed to be the only one here.

"Sister, can I at least say goodbye to other children before I go?" Milles asked, finding it all fishy. He did not see anything wrong with his request.

But the sister seemed to have frozen at his words and looked back at him with a suspicious gaze.

"What are you talking about? You are the only child here currently because of your unique situation. The rest of them were adopted a long while ago and new children would not be here for a while" her words were said in a carefree way.

But her sharp eyes told Milles that it would not be wise to ask any more questions for the time being.

He should keep his mouth shut and make his way behind the sister.

And then he collided with the sister's back as she stopped walking in front of him. Her head was bowed and her hand forced Milles to bow to the other as well.

"Mr. President. I was not aware you were here already" Milles chanced a look at the face above him and felt his heart freeze.

The icy eyes looking back at him looked far too familiar to him.

It belonged to that woman who had ruined everything for him.
