Liz was in police custody in a small cell together with other inmates. The floor was hard and cold, and the inmates were looking at her funnily. Liz wondered whether Carey had been worth all she was enduring at that moment.
She saw one of the guards walk toward her cell and call her out, and she felt both dread and excitement.
"Someone is here to see you," the guard said as he led Liz to an opening where inmates and visitors were allowed to talk.
As requested, the police officers had gotten Liz a lawyer. The man only introduced himself as Geoffrey and asked to talk with Liz in a secluded room. His request was granted, and the guard led Liz and Geoffrey to a small room that had a round table in the middle and two chairs.
"Twenty minutes," the guard said as he closed the door behind him.
"I need you to know that there is no way I will help you if you don't tell me the truth," Geoffrey said.
"I know. What do you need to know?" Liz asked.
