NEW YORK
The officers dispatched to Bob Francis' office entered the building, and everyone suddenly became cautious. Those who were talking to each other became numb while those walking along the corridors moved to pave the way for the officers.
The officers walked straight to Francis' secretary and showed their police IDs.
"Is Francis in?" George, one of the officers, asked.
"I… Yes," the secretary answered, stammering.
"Let him know he has visitors," George said.
"Yes…" the secretary answered. She was sweating through the AC was on.
The officers were let in, and it took a while for Francis to look up from the files he was working on.
"To what do I owe this unpleasant visit?" he asked once he did.
"Karen Barger…" George started, but Francis rudely interrupted by saying that Karen was no longer his employee.
