In a way, people have always dealt with emotions. There has always been some kind of ritual everyone uses to release what has built up over days, months, years. I guess dealing with emotions could be called a necessity, but it's never really perceived as one.
A river. A cloud. A bird.
Gray in Gray.
A coin. A splash. A tear.
Only one person knew what was happening. The other people were passing by, talking, laughing, flirting, enjoying the day without rain. It had been raining for months.
Another tear.
Before it could fall down, it was wiped away with the sleeve of her jacket. She couldn't stop the next one. It created a small puddle on top of the rail she was leaning onto. Only the rail had stopped it from falling into the river.
Only the rail stopped it.
If the rail hadn't been there, it would have gone into the water and disappeared. Not unusual for rivers. It would have disappeared like the coin she had thrown, and with it all the anger and grief she had felt at that moment. The song was getting too sad, so she skipped it and walked away, as if the ritual had never happened.
Maybe some of the people were curious about the girl standing next to the river, her jacket almost matching its colors. But they would never know what happened that day. It was her own little secret, a secret she would keep with her forever.
