Mariela's POV
I was waiting for Archer to come back with his horse, and as I waited for him, I was humming my favorite song, and it felt so refreshing to be surrounded by trees. I couldn't see anyone, maybe because the cacao fruits I saw on this part of the plantation were still small and not yet ready to harvest.
I could feel the aching of my toes and ankle, and this is one of the reasons I wouldn't say I like to wear new shoes because they will always give me blisters. We were always short of money, and my earnings on my part-time jobs will never be enough, so I asked my mom not to buy me new shoes since we have the same size, and I love wearing her shoes.
