On the land known as Serabrim, there is a unique phenomenon occurring on twins, all the twins on this land have polarized magic, such as one of the twins can have the power of fire while the other has water or ice.
Other twins can also have the power of light and healing while their twin counterpart can have the power of darkness and curses.
On this day we shall focus on the twins with a very rare power, the twins of life and death. Now while others might think that one gives life and the other brings death, it is not quite what they do.
The twin of life is named Azrael and he can talk to every living being just like they are sentient and has a mind of their own, while the twin of death Ausra, can see the dead and guide them to the afterlife.
Azrael can also know when life is born while his sister Ausra can know when one will die and thus they are worship as the embodiment of the spirit of life and death.
And the local church recruited them as they are believed to be messengers of life and death, Azrael is worship because of his unique ability to talk to all life and know when one will be born while his sister is shunned because she is believed to be a bad omen whenever she is seen by anyone.
They traveled together, bringing good and bad news to everyone alike. Because of the different opinions, there is quite a big gap in their relationship and began differ and split overtime.
Although his brother is praised where ever he goes and is renowned as the Missionary of Life, he feels empty inside as if something is missing while his sister, although shunned and renowned as the Harbinger of Death, feels peace in her own solace.
---
One faithful day of their travels, Azrael announced that the child of a newly wed couple will be born healthy and of course, the couple were over the moons by the great news, but Ausra brought a more distressing news.
She said that the mother would die as soon as she gave birth to their child, because her body is weak and couldn't handle the shock of giving birth.
This sullied her brothers news and the couple are also shocked by this news and chased her away and she quietly left the couple. After they chase her away, her brother pursuit and asked her why she did that.
"I just want them to be ready for the worse, but what I said is true, the mother's body isn't strong enough to handle giving birth and would die shortly after giving birth." She said without looking and left.
Azrael is left standing there with an extended hand and decided walked to another part of the town. While walking, he saw saw a sick beggar coughing and shivering in an alleyway, the beggar isn't going to last any long and although he tried to help with healing magic, but the beggar still died.
All he could do is cover his body and shut his eyes and quietly left and give him a simple burial as a way of respect and left. He left feeling sad and useless, he couldn't even heal a single beggar and yet he's renowned as the Missionary of Life.
Later that same day, Ausra walked past an alley way where the beggar died and saw his spirit left there standing and looking past the alleyway on the edge of town where his body is buried with a flower as a tombstone.
Ausra walked closed to the spirit and asked, "You just died, didn't you..." she asked in a sincere tone.
The spirit stayed silent for a few minutes before talking, "Why did I died here, I was a good man my whole life, I never killed anyone, never taken advantage of anyone, or even tried to hurt anyone, yet, yet I was left to die alone and cold in this alleyway..."
The spirit continued to rant for another 30 minutes of how unfair the world is and Ausra just stood there, listening to his story quietly, without any comment, just a consulting silence was from her.
After the spirit's rant did she finally talk, "... The world is unfair, some are born lucky while others are lucky to be born, but the most important thing is how we lived our lives, whether good or bad," She said consulting the spirit, "Just like me, my brother is praised all around because he heals everyone and brings good news about life, while I'm left in his shadows being shunned and ridiculed because I bring the news about death."
The spirit also listened in silent as she did to him and after what she said did he finally turned to look into the girl who is speaking to him and he was surprised to see such a young beautiful girl.
Her eyes screamed experience and hurt, "You... are the same as me... tried to help but ultimately shunned because of what we can do and not what we are doing." He said.
Ausra nodded and continued, "While I still have a purpose in this world, yours has ended, I will ask you this question, do you want to stay on this world to wonder aimlessly or do you want to finally be at peace and move to the afterlife."
They stared at each other eye to eye for a good whole minute, the spirit wanted to stay but when he looked towards his grave... "I'll go, I have done so much for this world, but it only given me pain in return," He said and return his look at Ausra, "Take me to the afterlife," He said sadly but firm.
Ausra nodded and extended her arm and started chanting, "Bring those who did good to the heavens and those who did evil in the pits of hell, and may the angels of life and death grant you peace on either side of the afterlife, Gate of Judgement!"
And as soon as she finished chanting, light shined above the spirits head and a gate appeared behind him and opened.
"Walk through the door to receive judgment from the heavens to know whether you are worthy to walk in pleasure for all of eternity or meant to suffer for the rest of time," Ausra said to the spirit.
The spirit was about to step in before he stopped for a brief moment, "Listen kid, I hope you won't find your self in the same situation as mine and I hope you live your life in happiness." He said before stepping in and disappeared along with the gate.
The alley returned to normal, like nothing happened at all. Ausra stared at the now empty alley and whispered to herself, "Thank for the kind words." And she left to find the next soul stuck on this world with her brother.
