A-Adventure?! What's this book saying?
[Don't be confused, oh heroes. This is the grand beginning of your adventure.]
"Grand beginning ya say? Then why aren't there any fireworks or anythin' festive."
Daniel butted in, the book replied of course.
[It will happen in due time. I will be giving a briefing on what to expect on this adventure.]
"Quick question! Will there be any magic or swords? Preferably both please!."
Sheikh asked in a naive tone, he really resembled one of those shonen protagonists right now... Wait, protagonists! A talking book, adventure and a naive protagonist... Are we going to get sent to another world?
[You must be very confused over your sudden departures. Fret not, you will be given a second chance at life.]
"What's the catch? If I've learnt anythin' from attending fancy banquets is that nothing comes for free."
Fancy banquets? A delinquent like him?! Hahahaha! Just thinking about Daniel wearing a suit and tie with his hair dyed back to normal while greeting guests is funny as hell.
[Like I've mentioned before, you four shall act as heroes in another world.]
Wait a minute, four? Clearly there's five of us. I guess having no eyes has it's down sides. I cautiously raised my hand, waiting to get approval to speak.
"Um excuse me, but there's five of us."
[I am aware, I only stated that only four of you shall act as heroes. You were never meant to be here.]
Haaaaah?!
Wendy hung her head, Yukihime acted as if it wasn't her business, Sheikh was utterly confused while Dan was pissed.
"Whaddya mean he ain't supposed to be here, huh?! We died at together, didn't we? Stop spoutin' yer bullsh*t words!"
[He wasn't supposed to die.]
Shock! Surprise! Que?!
Dan took a massive blow (mentally), he stood there silently watching the floor. Why does he seem more upset than me? I was the one who was wronged!
"I wasn't supposed to die you say."
The book seemed startled, white question marks popped up in the air.
[What do you mean?]
The font style became more menacing. Massive white text towered over me. The book's pages were faced towards me. The book was blank.
I gulped. I felt massive pressure being forced unto me (literally). The book was waiting for my answer.
"If I-I was supposed to die then... What were those strange coincidences? The things falling, and those runaway cars?! If I wasn't supposed to die then what were those then?! Is it because I have shitty luck?! Then I must have pissed off God then!"
The book closed, and the imposing letters disappeared. I could feel 5 pairs of eyes staring at me.
Wendy smiled, Yukihime was still indifferent though one of her eyebrows were slightly curved, Shiekh had question marks in his eyes yet still cheered for me, and Dan seemed satisfied.
[You pass the admission test.]
The book person crossed its' arms in satisfaction, nodding with approval. Admission test? What the hell?!
"This was an admission test?!"
[Yes, the others already passed theirs.]
"Then why didn't I know?"
[Well, you're a special case you see. You were supposed to die from the falling pot, becoming the first one to come here. But to my surprise you were able to evade until the ambulance incident, at that time I was getting desperate. So I directly intervened and sent a few of my agents to handle it.]
"You're blatantly admitting that you killed me aren't you?"
[Well not exactly,. Death from a falling pot was your natural death. When you died, we would've taken your soul and offered you to enter another world.]
So that cactus was really after me then. But I still have a question.
"Why us though?"
[I can't tell you that, you must find it out yourself. Now, the tutorial shall begin.]
The book opened once more. Wendy got sucked in.
"Kyaaaaaaaa!"
Ehhhh?!
Yukihime was next. She was still silent even when she was being sucked into the book.
Sheikh enjoyed it. That airhead.
"Oi! This feels weird as hell!!!"
Dan went out yelling profanities.
And that left me.
[I have something to give you before going in there.]
"Eh? What is it."
A leatherbook sprang forth from the black book's pages. Talk about bookception.
"This looks like diary."
[Indeed it is, and it's up to you to find out whose."
"You don't know whose is it?"
[No, I do. I just won't tell you.]
As expected.
I grabbed the leatherbook. I felt the sensation of being sucked, it was similar to going down a water slide, but no water.
"This counts as returning the favor."
I heard an unfamiliar voice echo through my head, did it come from the book? Doesn't matter, I felt my consciousness getting hazier and hazier. Then I fell asleep.
I only woke up after 18 years.
