"Will she be okay, Doctor?" a woman's voice cried. That sounds like my mother, she thought. She couldn't know for sure now. Her hearing isn't as good as it used to be.
The doctor didn't answer the woman right away. Instead, silence filled the room for what felt like hours before the doctor replied, "We tried everything we can, but I'm afraid there's nothing we can do to help your daughter."
All of a sudden, the world came crashing down. The woman sobs and a thud can be heard.
"No... no, this can't be happening," her voice trembled. Her breath became erratic as the realization sinks in. "Doctor... please."
"I'm so sorry."
Right now, there's a girl, not more than sixteen years old, lying stiff in a hospital ward. She has been like this for months now. Over the years, her body lost the ability to move little by little until she was completely paralyzed. Currently, she's been receiving treatment but to no avail, she didn't show signs of getting better.
While she was in the hospital, she suffered an intense seizure that caused her to damage her spine. Unfortunately, her surgery failed and this is where we are now.
As the cardiac monitor flatlines, the girl drifts into sleep.
Until...
"Miss Eudeline!"
Huh?
"Miss Eudeline, please hang in there!"
What?
She's alive? This can't be. She's dead. One hundred times over. Surely, she heard the monitor flatline?
"Miss Eudeline!"

That was the last thing Eudeline heard before drifting back to sleep.
