No matter how he tried to drift off, sleep eluded Marcus throughout the trip to the village. It could have been because of the bumpy journey as the carriage hurtled along the road, or it could have been because he had too much to think about, but Marcus found himself staring out of the back of the carriage for the entire journey, his back pressed against the corner of the carriage.
Conversely, Roxy and Elanor fell asleep early. They lay sprawled across the floor of the carriage with no regard for their form, their bodies an entangled mess.
As they travelled, Marcus thought about his time at Cranbrow. He could have been just like Bran had, someone who enjoyed themselves no matter what, who annoyed everyone else with jokes and pranks. Instead, he had those dreams, and as a result he chose to focus on learning as much as possible.
