"May! You're late!"
I heard my best friends voice, as she came upstairs, into my small apartement.
But... Why should I be late?
"It's our first highschool day!" It was like Yuuki could read my mind.
"And why should that be soooo extremely cool?"
Staying at home and sitting in front of my computer was all I had done in the last years. And I didn't want to change that. But somehow Yuuki got me out of my room everytime she came in, even though I don't wanted to meet anyone except her.
"Aww come on! We're getting small rooms and a roommate!"
Yuuki knew exactly that I was scared about making new friends since fourth grade. I had lost my ex-best friend back then and closed myself away from everyone except her. And then I became sociophobe.
"Ok, ok, I'm coming," I said while I got up from my chair to grab my bag and go outside.
Highschool was just a few minutes away from Yuuki's and mine apartement, so we walked there.
As soon as we arrived muttered Yuuki: "Whoa! How big it is... And we're gonna live here for the next three years?" Well I thought it wasn't that big, but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to kill the atmosphere.
Then we saw someone holding up a sign: "NEW STUDENTS OVER HERE" Next to him was a crowd. All of the girls and boys seemed to be in their first year, so Yuuki and I made our way there.
But then, suddenly, I ran into something.
Not it wasn't something, it was someone...
He was at least a head taller than me and looked down to me with eyes that said: "Wha'chu want? Just leave me alone." I assumed that he was in his second year of highschool.
"Ah... umm... s...so-"
I tried to excuse me but he cut me off and said: "Ya don't have to excuse ya. Just get to your group."
"O...okay..."
I sprinted as fast as I could to my group. Gosh, this was so embarrassing.
"Someone you know?", Yuuki asked while she followed him with her eyes.
"N...no."
"But he does look good, doesn't he? I think he's pretty cute."
Yuuki was right. With his bluish-black hair and his masculine face and body, this guy really was good looking. But to me he looked more like a thug because of his grumpy mood. I'm pretty sure he belongs to the in-group of this school. Maybe he even was their leader...
I didn't want to think of it. But then suddenly, the teacher said: "Is everyone here? I'll get you to your rooms and give you your student cards. Everybody will share their room with a second grader. They'll show you around after you got to know each other."
"Do you think I'll get in one room with this boy you ran into?"
Yuuki really was excited, but I couldn't understand why. Boy it's SCHOOL! Damn SCHOOL!!
Okay, maybe I should stop here. I shouldn't lose my nerves at this point, even if I hated school.
Instead of answering Yuukis question with a "I think this possiblity is below one percent" I answered: "Sure you will. I know."
"Yeah, right?!" Yuuki smiled happily. I didn't want to ruin her good mood. But then I suddenly remembered that we were inside a school building, so I told Yuuki to be quiet.
"May Sakura?", the teacher asked.
"Here!"
With these words I held my hand up and put on a fake smile, walking through the crowd of new students until I reached the teacher.
"This is your room: Number 374. And here's your student card." And so they left me standing in front of the door of room 374. I only heard Yuukis fading voice while she walked down the corridor with the crowd: "Good luck with your roommate May!"
Then I put my hand on the doorknob and opened the door, hoping that my roommate would be a girl like me.
