Chapter 11 - Neues Leben

It's been twelve nights since we landed here. It was hard at first, we were haphazard at first. But the more time passed, the more we came to terms with our fate. We were stranded in a desert of ice and dependent on the dragon corpse for warmth and food. We had no other options if we didn't want to freeze or starve to death.

But our situation was not too tragic and miserable. The flesh of the so-called dragon acts as a kind of medicine for us. After our first night of eating this meat, all our wounds disappeared.

We also managed to made winter coats from the fur from the monsters we killed in the most brutal way. With their bones we could create tools like our ancestors did. This was kind of fun.

Of course we also tried to use the scales, bones etc of the dragon in some way, but they were just too gigantic, hard and stable. We simply lacked the right tools to process this into tools. A bit contradicting isn't it?

In addition, we explored our environment, which was accessible to us without freezing to death. We didn't really find much when we circled the dragon. We were just stranded in a ice desert. We have many questions and no answers.

"And... What do you actually think?" Bruno asked me as the two of us sat together around the campfire.

I looked at him confused "Excuse me?"

With an axe in his left hand, he pointed to the dragon and said, "Somehow that guy must have died."

I rolled my eyes when I heard this. This topic was getting on my nerves, which is why I said relatively aggressively »You too, really?«

"Huh?" was the only reaction he gave.

"The other two have been speculating since day one who might be responsible. It was interesting at first, but it's eny, don't you think?"

»Hmm... I don't want to contradict your words. The two of them talked about it all the time, probably while they're getting the meat right now."

Suddenly Emiliano sneezed. A moment later Napat said, "Bless you... Have you caught a cold?" Emiliano shrugged, "Maybe... It's a wonder none of us have gotten sick..."

Then Bruno pointed to Can with his axe, which he is still holding in his hand, and said: "Nonetheless, it surprises me. You never commented on that. I'm sure you have an opinion too. «

"Why do you want to hear that so badly?"

'Obviously to start a conversation... ... ..."

"Oh... If that's so..." I said before explaining my conspiracy theory, which like the others will most likely be completely off the mark. I knew I had clearly overreacted, which I found a bit embarrassing in hindsight. I noticed that our conversations became more irrelevant with each passing day. This was probably because not much is happening. I imagined my Isekai adventure to be completely different.

"These two take their time" Bruno mentioned casually.

"That's right..." I answered without really thinking about it.

A moment later, our attitude about the situation changed completely. We stood up abruptly. I also grabbed an axe like Bruno is holding, which we constructed days ago with bones and stones.

'Let's take a look...' suggested Bruno. It was clear to hear that things were getting serious.

I nodded and we both jogged at a brisk pace to what we call our food source. The Dragon's Neck, where some things happened.

"We were far too careless. Just because nothing threatening has happened in the past few weeks, we lost track of the unknown that can happen at any time" I said.

"Save your breath," he replied.

It was only a matter of time before the suns went completely down, making it harder to see their tracks in the snow, but we knew the general direction. We rushed there with axes in our hands. This is how Vikings must have felt, storming into the unknown with an axe. On our way I imagined a wide variety of scenarios, which worried me more and more.

But what we saw was something I never expected...
