I just stare at the person in front of me. I'm surprised more than anything else to see her here. I would never have thought she of all people would be my roommate. To tell the truth I never would have thought to see her here at all.
Lisa face breaks out into the biggest smile and she squeals as she runs up and hugs me. I'm so shocked that I just stand there like a statue.
Lisa: What are you doing here?
Shae: This is the room I was assigned!?
Lisa: No not here in this room, here in Arizona?
Before I can answer she answers her own questions. Lisa is like that she likes to talk when she is comfortable with a person so sometimes she can hold the whole conversation herself.
Lisa: Well obviously if you're here you go to the university, but why didn't you tell me you were coming to Arizona the last time we talked back home?
Shae: shoulder shrug. We never really talked about what we would do after high school so it never came up. Where are your parents.
Lisa parents were so clingy, you rarely ever saw her without them unless she was at work. Lisa smile drops and she gets a look in her eyes that tells me something may have happened before she came here. She looks at the floor and mutters something.
Shae: I'm sorry what?
Lisa: I came out to them after we... you know... and they kicked me out. I haven't spoken to them in a while. I've been living with my Aunt every since then and she is the one who got me to the airport so I made it here.
I look at Lisa in astonishment, not because she was pit out, but because I haven't noticed her parents not being around. It's rare for me not to notice something like that, but hey I have been dealing with my own sh show.
Shae: I'm sorry that happened, that must have sucked
Lisa: Yeah at first, but after I moved in with my Aunt and started seeing how big the world was outside my parents house and views... I was actually glad about it.
We go kind of silent after that, I see that Lisa has picked the left side of the room so I grab my suitcase and proceed to the side that was left to me.
Lisa: Hey Shae?
I stop and turn around to look at her. She has her head down and looks really nervous, which in turn is making me a lot cautious.
Shae: Yeah?
Lisa: I know back home thing we're a little weird, but now that we are both here and sharing a room... do you think we can take the time to get to know each other better than just that one time we spent together?
I smile and walk up to Lisa using my index finger to lift her chin so she is looking me in the eyes. "I'd like that" I say before going back to my suitcase and continuing to the small dresser on my side of the room.
