Caroline Edwin opened the box, and the delicate cake caught everyone's eye.
The little mites, eyeing the attractively fragrant cake in front of them, were madly swallowing their saliva.
"Happy birthday,"
She lifted her hand to Mason Hugh's head, gently brushed off the snowflakes, and tousled his hair a couple of times.
"Tha... thank you, big sister."
His eyes teared up, and a wave of warmth surged through his heart.
Big sister is really so gentle.
"You're welcome."
Caroline said as she took out the birthday hat for the birthday boy to wear, then inserted the candle into the cake and lit it with a lighter.
The candle was successfully lit, and its weak little flame flickered in the night, warming a lonely little heart.
She stuffed the lighter into the pocket of her sleep pants, "Let's sing a birthday song, and then I'll cut the cake for you all to eat."
"Okay!"
The little mites shouted in unison.
They held hands with one another, forming a circle around Mason Hugh.
