Fifteen minutes later.
"Sssss—"
"Sssss—"
Two sharp braking sounds rang out simultaneously as the black Falcon car and the Red Flag car stopped one after the other on the unbuilt ground, kicking up clouds of dust.
Blake Fuller stepped out of the car, his white gown still spotless, holding a folder of documents in his hand.
He walked up to Caroline Edwin.
"Let's go."
"Yeah."
The surrounding area was dim without any light, the abandoned construction site had been unoccupied for years, eerily quiet with only the occasional unsettling yowl of a stray cat.
They came shoulder to shoulder to the bottom of the attic stairs when a group of patrolling, burly men surrounded them.
"Don't move!"
"Don't move!"
"Raise your hands and don't move!"
...
The men cautiously searched them for weapons, found none, and with no police in pursuit or hiding, led them upstairs.
