Upon hearing Caroline Edwin's teasing tone, Joan Edwin who was kneeling on the washing board instinctively straightened her back, her ears tinged with a suspicious blush.
Feigning innocence she replied, "Mom, I'm sure I'll finish my homework before school starts, you can rest assured that the teacher won't call you to the school for a criticism session."
After speaking, she lowered her head and moved the washing board on the ground a bit. Virginia Daniel noticed her small movement, snorted coldly, and turned her head away.
Virginia placed the feather duster on the table, walked over and sat beside Caroline, chit-chatting while watching television.
"Carol, I heard that the vacant villa next to ours has been bought. Besides the cleaning crew, I haven't seen the owners yet."
"If you see who they are, take a fruit basket and go say hi. After all, we're going to be neighbors and there will always be times when we'll need to help each other."
