Another peaceful day passed.
The next day, everyone went up the mountain to pick chestnuts. After collecting them for two days, they finally gathered them all and, wearing gloves, peeled the chestnuts from their spiky outer shells.
One by one, the peeled chestnuts were placed in the winnowing basket, each round and plump, a scene that was pleasing to the eyes.
Caroline picked up a chestnut, gently bit down to peel off the shell, revealing the slightly yellow raw chestnut, which tasted both crisp and sweet.
Seeing this, Alison also picked up a chestnut and bit it open, savoring the sweet, delicious taste. Her eyes slightly squinted with joy, her face filled with happiness.
Trying raw chestnuts for the first time was intriguing, so she ate a few in a row.
Ernie noticed Alison's actions, glanced in her direction, and his gaze fell on her small face.
Her left cheek was stuffed full, looking like a puffed-up pufferfish.
Oddly... cute.
