Chapter 16 - 16.

We sat inside and decided to talk a little more before going back to the party.

"So, you're not cursed like me but you're an angel or Nephilim..."

"Not a Nephilim, angels were only written down as male, but in reality, there were many female angels, we just didn't really care about gender back then, also funny to know that God is a woman."

"Okay, and I got cursed?"

"Yes and no, your dad got cursed, the curse simply goes down to the rest of his bloodline. You're also a half-witch, the woman from your family who cursed your dad was Lillith, as in the first woman ever, even before Eve was made for Adam."

"Lillith? The one who disobeyed Adam?"

"I know, the resemblance is striking, you look like her, and are at least as stubborn as she can be I figured already," Jules teased.

"And that's where you're cursed, as long as you dwell over mortal beings you will always set yourself up for failure, knowing they will die and you won't."

"Thank you," maybe some honesty and distraction were exactly what I needed.

We walked back to the party, unlike what I knew about American party culture it was apparently custom here to party all night. If that was indeed the case I was happy for the little break I had so far.

Valerie immediately came my way and stole me from Jules, Sebastien looked at Jules as if he was trying to figure something out and Jules walked to Sebastien and his friends.

"Where have you been and what were you doing with one of the hottest men ever alive," she wanted to know hinting to Jules.

"We just walked and talked outside, probs as a favour to my stupid brother, and where did your date go girl, tell me all about it."

We exchanged numbers, "I owe you so much for your ballsy move earlier tonight," Valerie started as she started to describe her night after Jules and I left my brother started to eye me from across the room.

"Jade, tell me, what have the two of you done outside?" Sebastien's voice sounded in my head. It was more clear than the few times I had this experience before with other people as if he knew I could hear him like this.

"Just think what you want to tell me and push it my way, answer me."

"And you only tell me this now?" I thought in a sarcastic way and pushed it his way.

"That's not an answer, and yes, now what did the two of you do outside alone?" Sebastien wanted to know.

"We talked, and he told me honestly he's an Angel, we talked about what I am, don't worry." I pushed the thought his way and his stare loosened.

"Why the overprotectiveness? You should know he's too old for me."

"Because angels can enthral every other being, meaning he can make you do things you don't want." Sebastien sounded serious but less tense at least.

"He didn't, so don't worry," I replied and turned away to listen to the last details about Valerie's night while I was outside.

While everyone was gone and I washed off my make-up while I was already changed into my pyjamas, Sebastien knocked on the door and walked in before I could answer.

"What now?" I wanted to know before he said anything.

"I should have trusted both of you," Sebastien said reluctantly and added to that another few words he hated to say.

"And you were right, I should have trusted one of my best friends and my sister."

As my face was clean I turned off the water and turned around to my brother, who was already changed, and showered. He sat down on my bedroom bench, waiting for me to talk, in real life, not with the voices in our heads.

"I know I'm right, I often am, but I appreciate your worries and understand we only just met."

When he didn't say anything and I grabbed a hairbrush to brush my hair I continued.

"So, what else made you come all the way here to keep me awake for even longer?" I wanted to know.

"Jules really likes you, as you may have noticed."

"Are we really having this talk?" I groaned.

"Yes we are, listen, you know a little more now about what you are, and you know now there are other mythical beings," Sebastien started, "and I will take it on with Dad that you start being educated since you're here now."

"Okay, and?"

"I know you still feel for the mortal boy, but please don't do anything stupid while mourning what you had to leave behind."

"Okay, no worries, it wasn't like I wanted to get under him to get over my ex," I rolled my eyes.

"As I said, angels can make us do things even if we don't want to, Sebastien said, and he really is interested in you, while I should know better, I just..."

"You just got concerned he may use that ability on me, I finished."

"Yes, while he is my friend, I would keep him accountable. And also, you do not blindly want to have a soul bond with someone, feel free to do plenty of stupid things while we're young, but don't do that one thing blindly."

"And I'm thankful for that, it's a good quality, don't worry, if something like that happens I will come to you, deal?"

"Okay, good, deal."

As I stepped into my bed and laid down I started to overthink everything this night had happened. I was just about to fall asleep when I started to hear Jake's voice in my head.

As I fell asleep I was in a room I'd never seen before. The only thing I recognized in the room was Jake, lying in a bed, crying. Jake was turning and sweating as if he had a bad dream. Out of instinct, I wanted to wake him up from whatever bad dream I had so I hurried to him and laid a hand on his face.

The next thing I knew I was in his dream, in the front yard in Summerville. My bloody body was on the floor and Jake was sobbing next to it.

"Jake, hey, what's wrong?" I asked in a soft voice and needed down next to him. The smell of death, tears and gunpowder was in the air. Jake was crying, his brown eyes had lost the warmth and sparkle that I loved so much.

"She's dead, the only girl I ever truly loved. I wasted so much time, only when we were older I started to have feelings for her, and now she's gone."

"Are you sure?" I asked and gently cupped his face in my hand and turned him to face me, unharmed, unlike the bloody corpse in front of us. His eyes got big, he held his breath for a few moments before his hands explored my face and when he hugged me I felt his muscles relax and heard he sniffed my smell.

"You smell different," Jake said with an accusing tone.

"I live somewhere different now, but I'm still me," I assured him and held him close like I wished I could have done every moment since I left for Summerville.

"I know, but how can you be here?" He wanted to know as he still had me in his arms as if he was scared to let me go.

"I'm always with you, even if I can't be physically. I love you, so don't be sad okay? I'll come back when I can." I assured him. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I loved him, and I knew if I could I would visit him.

"I love you too, please stay." He became transparent slowly and after a few seconds he was cone and I woke up in my own bed. I felt my heart race and ache, my muscles were still sore and it was still early. Silently tears streamed down my cheeks and I cuddled my pillow as if it could replace Jake.

When it was a few hours later I had washed my face and was happy when I saw all traces of how much I cried this morning were gone. Soft knocks on my door sounded through my room and when I said to whoever it was to come in a servant walked in and greeted me politely.

"Mistress Mercier, your father has left but he wanted you to join him for lunch, he asked me to bring you this note and ask you what you want to eat." She announced.
