finally turned off the console and with it, the game as well. I picked up the cd and placed it in the case it read, "The Conquerors Of Love". Okay, Okay I get it. A romantic Otome game, in my defence I read only the first half, "The Conquerors" and assumed it was an action game. I was going to return it, however, there was, of course, a no return policy...Damn it.
It does explain very well the looks I was getting from the person at the counter. I mean, at least try and keep a poker face, isn't that store policy or something?
To be honest, though, The game wasn't terrible. Unlike most Otome games, even though I barely know of any, there was combat. I liked completing every game I owned, so the combat system was a saving grace when compared with the vomit-inducing romance that involved the 6 capture targets. The game also included a questing system so most of my time was spent doing that compared to the actual storyline, I still finished it nonetheless. It was set in a medieval-type era but despite this, everyone had access to basic luxuries and the sanitation of streets, businesses and houses were high class. You play as Elizabeth Angel, a commoner student who had enrolled in an academy for nobles due to a scholarship, I respected people who could climb up from the bottom by themselves. Anyways, Elizabeth can use {Saint Class} Healing magic but what made her even more special was her ability to learn 1 other magic type. The extra type was random and depended on what you received in a roulette. Whatever you received, you had to stick with, unless, of course, you paid for a re-spin.
There were various magic types but there were only 6 main types.
-The School Of Fire
-The School Of Water
-The School Of Earth
-The School Of Air
-The School Of Light
-The School Of Darkness
(All 5 nations lived in harmony until the fire nation attac-...*Cough* *Cough* Sorry, wrong story)
Healing magic is classed as a type of water magic. Each type had its subtype as well, for example, {Flames} is weaker than main-type {Fire} but can be said to be more versatile, however, nobles only looked at the strength of magic as there is no way a pistol could win against a cannon face to face.
In regards to the romance side, let us start it off, with the most famous and cliche target,
Roman West, The prince. He Is a wielder of annoy...I mean Light magic. He is the heir to the throne so you would assume he would have more common sense...but nooooo, he went and sacrificed everything for a commoner. Anyways, before I become sidetracked, He is engaged to Marie Hemsworth, the daughter of the duke, a Villainess.
Marie is a wielder of Darkness magic and with her social status, she was seen to perfectly compliment the prince. Even if it was a political marriage, she was shown to genuinely love the prince, well at least that's what I had gathered from her bits of dialogue. The feeling, however, wasn't mutual and the Prince didn't reciprocate her love. She, of course, would 'bully' the heroine out of jealousy, well they were petty things such as yelling at her in public or nudging her when walking past her. Her followers, however, are a new breed of Evil, they saw her dislike of the heroine and to try and earn Marie's favour they would intentionally make the life of the heroine worse and their pranks were anything but simple petty ones. Crowding around her, threatening her, sometimes hitting her and many other things. Anyways as you've probably guessed Marie doesn't have a happy ending. I'm not particularly a fan of her but they were pretty depressing endings. In the normal prince route, Marie would be publically humiliated and her family stripped of their title, which I don't understand how since there would be a power imbalance that way but hey, PLOT ARMOUR! In the reverse harem route, Marie would be beaten up by her followers in a duel, with the right options chosen she would have to fight one if not all of the harem candidates...it isn't pretty. Her other bad ends involve Kidnapping, being transferred to a remote region, being politically married to someone else and finally what the game was notorious for...she is sacrificed to the demons during an attack and from there she is implied to be either killed or sexually assaulted. A disgusting end, in my opinion. There is no end where she lives happily after, her followers are also punished severely but not as harshly as her.
Anyways, Next is Lorenzo Ryan. He is a wielder of Water magic, he is both the attendant of the prince and his best friend at the same time. Like the element he controls, he is calm and is the typical glasses-wearing handsome guy. Being the Prince's attendant he feels immense pressure from the role and its duties. The heroine notices this and Lorenzo finally has someone to confide to after extensive correct dialogue options.
Kyron Shaffer a wielder of Earth magic, He is one of the smartest in the kingdom and was originally a commoner. He is around the age of the other capture targets, around a year older, but due to his 'high intellect', he was able to skip classes and was chosen and appointed by the King who noticed his talents, as a teacher at the prestigious noble school, Xylem. He secretly despised nobles or at least those who didn't work hard for their position. This is why he highly respected the heroine as she was a commoner herself, this eventually changed to love. He also respected the prince mainly due to the king giving him this position. He, however, disliked Marie and believed her to be just another privileged noble gifted with a good birth.
Next on the list, Darren Shimmerman, A wielder of Fire magic, like the element he had a fiery and aggressive temperament. He could be said to be the most brutal during the duel against the villainess. He is the son of a sword magus general of count rank. He is proficient with the sword but weaker in skill with magic, this has resulted in an inferiority complex towards his father. After meeting the heroine who is highly skilled in magic, he starts to rely more on his sword and less on his magic, although he does continue to train his magic. He eventually overcomes his inferiority complex and works towards the day he can challenge his father to a duel. Being of Fire attribute, he would often butt heads with Lorenzo.
Abel Fowler, Wielder of Air magic, he is actually part of the DLC for the game, The Conquerors, Flight and Zombies Extension He is a captain of a large fleet and here's the kicker...a werewolf, with the DLC, Intelligent demi-humans were introduced along with the undead spawned from excess mana and the addition of the flight combat system. That's a story for another day though, The heroine managed to find him injured and healed him back to full lover-boy health. With his Air Galleon ship, you could fight in the skies. Funny thing is if you chose his route to follow, the prince would take out his rage on the villainess.
Then there was Ingram Ion, He had Unique-Type Magic. These types of Magic had no real classification as they couldn't be put in a group. Ingram had the unique magic, Necromancy. He held the title of 'King Of The Undead' Of course there was a werewolf, so to complete the balance, Ingram was a vampire. Choosing his end resulted in making fighting the undead much easier, although some high-class undead were hard to control, he was a help nonetheless. I'm not sure how it worked but he could revive a partner in battle should they fall. Choosing his route resulted in Marie turning into high-class undead that you could use in battle. To be an undead though, you had to die, so Marie was most likely killed in some way, it wasn't specified.
It wasn't the most entertaining game but a fun way to pass the time. I put on my coat and headed outside, I had been playing for quite some time now and needed a break. I headed outside and walked to the store. The gentle yet cold night wind was incredibly relaxing after being in my room all day. It gave me time to think. I'm not entirely a fan of the ending, It was quite an annoying one if I'm being honest. The duke had to face the brunt of the punishment which doesn't make sense to me while those responsible for it had another scapegoat. What irritates me the most is the duel where 6 people target 1. It was a crappy ending but I wonder if I could change it if I were there?
{I agree, Let's Find Out Shall We?}
A strange, yet warm voice resounded through my head, I quickly turned around to see who it was but I was only met with the silent and lonely street.
I heard a weird sound suddenly from behind me again, I turned around, almost fast enough to make me dizzy. I assumed there would be nothing there like before, however, there was.
It wouldn't be inaccurate to call it a gate of sorts, a small circular window perhaps? I wonder if it was a response to my thoughts. I could see what seemed like another world. It was a large contrast to the nighttime, as it was daytime on the other side.
It could be a trap, what if I slipped into a small cage of my own kidnapping.
There was this urge, however, as if every fibre of my being was daring me to enter through the gate. If this is a trap, then so be it. I took one step forward.
I was suddenly hit by a wave of unfamiliarity, the bright world seemed like a lie to me, I slowly reached and touch my forehead felt the presence of a warm liquid. I looked at my finger once again...blood.
