Chereads / OtherWorlders: The Abyss Stares Back / Chapter 14 - Sinister Yet Cute

Chapter 14 - Sinister Yet Cute

Chirps of birds fills the bright Monday morning as a tired Ryvern twirls a pen as he sit with a hunched back by his desk. To his dismay, the blind was suddenly forced open by none other then the pixie who always follows him around.

"Morning sleepyhead," said the blond fairy of Lust.

The silver haired teenager grunts while laying his back to the chair.

"Did you not sleep?" asked Luxuria.

No reply came from the mouth of the tired Ryvern. He places the pen down on the desk before getting up and going to the bathroom, not without bringing a towel along.

Luxuria ponders on the sudden change of mood, but pays no mind to it as she flies through the window and down towards the kitchen's window.

There, she is met with a single bacon and toast prepared by the restless Zelle and a smiling Iana.

"Good morning!" greets the fairy which surprised the two ladies.

"Morning, Lux," replied Zelle as the blue haired lady waves at her with a smile on her face.

Luxuria lands on the table and asked; "Nervous?"

Zelle anxiously nods as she changes her attention to Iana.

"Are you going to tease her again?"

Iana happily nods to which flustered the black haired angel.

Luxuria chuckles at their antics.

"I'm glad things turned this way," said the pixie to no one, although she manages to catch the attention of Zelle and Iana. "Back when it's just the two of us, it was nothing but him waking up, fixing breakfast for himself, go to school, go back home, jogging, kills demons, and sleep."

"That was it. To the point that it was boring all the time."

"Demons?" Iana suddenly asked as Zelle ears perks.

Luxuria nods.

"'Creatures of the Dark'. 'Those who seeks the End'. 'Monster without Master'. You know, those 'demons'."

Zelle looks at Iana with concern.

"I thought it was just a fairy tail."

"I thought so too."

The smiling Iana had a sweat falling down her forehead.

"Please tell me you were joking..."

Luxuria shakes her head.

Then, the sounds of footsteps from upstairs caught their attention. Slowly but surely, a fully dressed Ryvern is now wearing his Atkinson High school uniform, making the steps downstairs as he is met with the gazes of the two ladies and the pixie.

With a cold expression in his face, he stares at them before looking at the dishes by the table. He grabs the food before leaving them by themselves. It was silence until he opens the front door.

"Thanks for the food, Zelle. I'll be off now," he said, before closing the door.

Zelle yelps before cheering as Iana claps like a proud mother. Luxuria stares at the door which Ryvern just closed, with a worried expression.

She then turns to the two ladies.

"Hey."

Zelle and Iana looks at her with curiousity.

"Can you two do me a favour?"

...

The social studies lesson just ended and Sona Bruvelle gets up from her seat. Making her way to Ryvern's seat, the furious class monitor slams his desk, which surprised the silver haired boy; who clearly just woke up.

"What is it?" asked Ryvern with a gruff voice.

"Come with me."

The tired Ryvern slumps his head down to the desk which gains him a slap on the back of the head from Sona.

"Now."

...

Arriving at the rooftop, Ryvern closes the door gently as he rubs the back of his hair while yawning.

"What did you want, Sona-"

Suddenly, Ryvern found himself in a library. He looks around and found, not angry, but timid Sona standing by an old man who is sitting on a sofa by the window.

"Spirit Realm; Mirror Dimension, or am I wrong?"

"It must be done, mister Ryndelle, we don't know what kind of ears are eavesdropping in the Overworld," said the old man as he crossed his legs.

"Please, sit down. So we can talk."

Ryvern cautiously walks towards the old man before sitting down on the sofa opposite of him. He gazes toward Sona, who merely looks at the floor.

"Troublesome, is she not?" asked the old man.

Ryvern lays his back on the sofa, meeting the gazes of the old man.

"I supposed you didn't bring me here to kill me, no? Or should I apologise for killing your father?"

Ryvern coldly spoke before continue.

"Duke. Kavech. Sinister."

The old man laughs at the remarks before glaring at the silver haired teenager.

"If it weren't for you, I would always be at the shadow of my father. So I thanked you for that. But to insult me that way, it seems that your hatred towards devils hasn't dissipate after all these years..."

Duke Sinister eyes glow red.

"Leader of the Seven Sins and the Demon himself; Demitrius."

Suddenly, the air arounds them tensed. The whole library was filled by Ryvern's intense pressure.

"For you to speak my true name right in front of me, do you have a death wish?"

The Duke face's grimaces as he struggles to breathe. Although, Ryvern stopped releasing his killing intent after noticing Sona laying on the floor, unconscious. He rushes towards her and lifting her upper body before checking her heartbeats.

"As...expected of the Demon..."

Suddenly, a lightning bolt skim passed the Duke's nose bridge which hits the window next to him, shattering the glass afterwards.

"If you brought me here just to spout nonsense, save your breath," hissed Ryvern as he glares at Duke Sinister.

He then lifts the unconscious Sona and walks away from the Duke.

"Wait!" pleaded Duke Sinister.

"I have a favour to ask of you."

Ryvern stops, returns back to the sofa which he sat before, and let Sona rest on it.

"Speak," Ryvern turns to the Duke.

"You need to crash the wedding between Daemon Beelzebub and Nora-"

"No," refused Ryvern as his anger grows. "I don't know if you noticed, Shur-El is trying invade the 'Overworld' and by doing so, she will make everything cease to exist."

"And you expect me to waste time on the devils' political marriage dispute?!"

The old Duke stays silent, as if carefully assessing the next words that will come out of his mouth.

"I can't believe you devils. Look I expect the younger generation to not know what happened during the 'War of Everlasting Despair', but for old geezers like you to not even care for the existence of everything just because of your pathetic pride and playing kings and castle in the so called Underworld is just..."

Ryvern could not utter another word.

He moves towards the shattered window before punching the walls next to it in frustration, collapsing a huge portion of it.

"Don't tell me you didn't know that Mason escape," he slowly said, and turns back to look at Duke Sinister.

Although, the Duke's appearance did not changed.

"You knew."

"It was a decision made by the Heavenly Kings to not spread word of it."

Ryvern could only clenches his fist in anger.

"Bastards."

The two stays silent as Ryvern looks at the unconscious Sona.

"What do you gain from it?"

Puzzled, the Duke asks for confirmation.

"Pardon?"

"The wedding, what do you gain if I crash it?"

The Duke takes a deep breathe.

"I would replace the current vacant seat of one of the Heavenly Kings."

"So the Beelzebub's descendant will take it if I don't crash the wedding."

"Yes," confirmed Duke Sinister.

"What do I gain from all this then?" said Ryvern as he looks away from Sona, only to find the Duke is nowhere from his seat, but kneeling down to Ryvern.

"My eternal loyalty."

Ryvern closes his eyes and approached Sona, before picking her up.

"Start training your soldiers, we'll be fighting against the Abyss after I crash the wedding.

"Yes, my lord."

Then, the entire library disappears and the two are back on the rooftop of the school. Ryvern appears to be in deep thought as he approaches the door, although his focus was shaken by the shuffling Sona on his arms.

The bob cut noirette awakes to him looking at her face. Thus, the descendant of the Sinister Family starts to grow red and tries to hid her face on his chest.

"Sona... if you're already wake up, can I put you down?" He asked. "It's hard to open the door like this."

Without a shred of thought the glasses noirette gets down and stands on her two feet, allowing the silver haired Ryvern to open the door with ease. As he takes a step, Sona suddenly speaks.

"Are you dating Aika, by any chance?"

Ryvern stops in between the door, facing a flustered yet gloomy Sona.

"So you saw it?"

The thought of Aika hugging him last week comes to Ryvern's mind.

"She's more interested in Wilson than me, so there's no chance that would happened."

Ryvern then gestures her to come with him, as it's still school time. She rushes through the door and pass by him in a swift.

"I only have one woman in my heart, and it's definitely not Aika Anthony," said the silver haired teenager as he closes the rooftop door.

He turns to see Sona, whose face now an inch apart from his.

"I see, hehe."

She smiles happily before turning towards the stairs.

Sona then cutely walks down the stairs, leaving Ryvern by himself, who is hiding his face with his hand as his ears turns roses' red.

'God, that was close...'
