Chapter 2 - Resolution

"I believe now you don't have any reason to doubt me anymore, right?" Haytham's voice shook Lucas out of his reverie.

Lucas merely nodded his head weakly as an answer.

"Great, I'll leave you alone for now. I'm gonna check you up in a couple of hours." Haytham grinned and immediately pulled close the curtain before whistling while walking out of the room.

Minutes had passed since Haytham's departure, but Lucas remained planted in the same spot, just like a statue. He only snapped out of his dazed state when he couldn't feel his legs anymore. Dragging his fatigued body to the bed, Lucas lay on his back and stared at the ceiling blankly.

'This…This phenomenon should be called transmigration, right? Right now, what I'm experiencing is transmigrating to another world, right?'

'If it's a prank, I don't think the TV Show had enough budget to create the illusion of that majestic skyscraper.'

'Then, what happened to my actual body? What will happen to mom and dad?'

Lucas suddenly unleashed a loud distressed groan. Those wild thoughts will soon drive him mad for sure.

After struggling with himself for quite a time, Lucas, with much reluctance had to accept the fact he's now living in another world.

"For now, I'll set aside the Earth's matter. If I can transmigrate here, there's definitely a way for me to return home. Yeah, there must be some kind of method that could help me reach home." Lucas encouraged himself and sensed his mood lifted a little.

With his mind slightly cleared, Lucas was about to start planning his future when exhaustion struck him. His body wasn't physically fit in the first place, and now being faced with harsh reality, both his mind and body really need to take a break. Slowly, his eyes turned heavier, and the black screen was the last thing he saw before succumbing to slumber.

"Hey, wake up."

"If you won't open your eyes in five seconds, say goodbye to your dinner." Haytham threatened, which success threw the remaining Lucas's drowsiness out of the windows.

As if just receiving a nightmare, Lucas abruptly sat up and looked in Haytham's direction. It took a few seconds for realization to dawn over him. Instantly, a bitter smile surfaced on his lips. 'It's not a dream.'

"Hey, what's that look on your face? Do you really think I won't dare to discard a patient out of my house?" Haytham said with a frown. This brat had continuously tested his patience. First, he keeps sending me those distrustful gazes. And now, he even had the audacity to scowl at his face??

"Ah, I'm sorry, grandpa. I'm just thinking about another matter." Lucas hurriedly explained. If there's one thing he understands the most about the man before him, it is his fiery temperament.

"Hmph!" Haytham snorted in reply before harshly placing a bowl and a piece of bread on the deskside. "Eat this, I don't want someone to die out of hunger in my house."

"Thank you, grandpa," Lucas said joyfully. He was fortunate to meet Grandpa Haytham upon arriving at this strange world.

"Save your gratitude later." Haytham waved his hand and added, "And, don't call me grandpa. I'm not your grandfather."

"Eh? Then what should I address you?" Lucas confusedly asked while scratching his head.

"Just call me Sir Haytham from now on."

"Oh, right, sir!"

Satisfied with Lucas's response, Haytham nodded and was about to leave the room when he remembered something. "Right, come down after eating your food. I got something to ask you."

*Thump* *Thump*

Lucas's heart thumped loudly while beads of perspiration began to cascade over his back. 'This old man surely doesn't know about my real identity, right?'

'Nah, I don't think Sir Haytham is the type of person who likes beating around the bush. That means, he isn't sure yet. Wait, why am I keep overthinking, he probably would just ask normal questions.'

Forcing a smile to bloom on his face, Lucas replied stiffly, "Sure, Sir Haytham."

"Hmm."

Watching Haytham's figure retreat to the side of the door, Lucas shifted his gaze to the deskside where a bowl of soup and a piece of bread were placed there. "I hope this won't be my last meal."

Lucas thoroughly examined his body during the dinner, and just as he expected, he possessed somebody else's body. A kid's body that looks to be around age fifteen and also evidently suffered malnutrition. It was no wonder the boy died under the extreme cold. When Sir Haytham went to rescue, the boy was probably dead long enough to be possessed by Lucas's soul.

Coming to this conclusion, Lucas didn't feel relieved. Instead, he sensed another headache problem surfaced. He couldn't recall a single memory of the original owner of this body! Without knowing the boy's name and family, how would he cope with general questions that possibly will be directed over him in the future? It would be easy for him to answer those questions with lies, but there's still the probability of him stumbling across the boy's family. For now, he could only hope he wouldn't meet one of them soon.

Lucas quickly devoured his dinner despite the bland taste offered by the soup and bread. Even if he wanted to complain, it'd be like he's courting for a punch from Sir Haytham.

Finished by the dinner, Lucas took a couple of minutes to sort out his thoughts before taking a stride toward the door. It was completely dark outside the room, with no candle serving as the light. Nonetheless, he could spot the stairs by relying on the gleam from downstairs. As Lucas arrived on the base floor, his eyes subconsciously looked around and found the source of light was coming from his right side. It was a room with a wooden door opened ajar, followed by a thick alcohol aroma wafted from it.

"You've finished your dinner?" Haytham's voice dragged Lucas from his thoughts. Upon entering the room, he was welcomed by the sight of a comfy living room with a single fur couch stationed across the fireplace. There, Sir Haytham looked to be in leisure with his back leaning against the sofa lazily. One of his hands held a glass bottle that Lucas assumed to be a bottle of wine.

"Yes," Lucas replied courteously.

"Good, now let's talk. I have some questions for you." Haytham's eyes slowly revealed, and for some reason, Lucas felt a chill running down his back when they came in contact with his.

"Sure, sir."
