Chapter 12 - Mother Parasite

After the citizens of Galaron was purified with the effects of the miasma and after their memories were altered, they were disoriented. Ryan and his gang took this as an opportunity to claim the achievements as their own.

They said a giant moth had erased everyone's memories and if it weren't for them, the town would've perished.

Since the citizens, and even the Adventurers were still clueless about everything that was going on, they believed Ryan. He was hailed as Galaron's hero which was also because among them, his group had the most advanced equipment.

"He was able to sell materials and buy equipment even with the effect of the miasma," Glenn told Gina and John. They were in a dark alley while discussing what Ryan could do in order to help them address the next phase of the storyline. "This man, he's a born hustler."

"His persuasion skills are top notch, that's for sure," Gina said. "If he was able to convince the people, as well as the Adventurers that he was the one who saved the town, then he must've used some sort of skill or ability."

"The Mage role, Enchanter class," Glenn said. "I heard you could manipulate people's thought."

"We could, but that's a high level skill," Gina said. "If Ryan is a low level, then he couldn't possibly cast it."

"And he's a fighter," John pointed out. "It couldn't be him since he's a fighter role. There must be someone else behind it."

"The surviving Adventurers," Glenn whispered. "There are Prime Adventurers who failed the introductory scene. They must have fled their town and reached Galaron just in time for me to cast Tree of Life and for them to see everything."

"What's the next town closes to Galaron?" Gina asked. "That Prime Adventurer must be from that town."

"If he is," John pursed his lips. "Why did he have to use Ryan's group? He could've taken the credit for his own."

"We don't have an answer to that yet, but we still have to prepare for the Waves," Glenn said. "The Waves is a brutal scenario and if we don't prepare for it, we don't have another chance. Even when this is a fixed plot, we don't actually know what the actual plot is.

"Adventurers failed to save their towns from the introductory phase, the plot they have doesn't benefit is whatsoever," Glenn sighed. "And if Ryan continues with his fiasco, he will be the target of other towns. They think a General has fled here, so if he claims to be the hero, he will get killed."

"Can we even save the other towns from the miasma?" John asked. "I think if we don't, then their situation would only get worse."

"It's going to be hard to deal with since we have several situations in our own town," Glenn replied. "If we leave, the Four Waves would come and our town would be destroyed in the process."

"Then, what do you suggest we do?" Gina asked to which Glenn answered with a shrug.

"Let's let this plot continue to where it want to go," Glenn said. "The time that we have to intervene is the time when the town will be in grave danger."

Puk! Puk! Puk!

Fireworks paraded the night sky in order to appreciate Ryan's bravery. He was hailed as the hero and a celebration was held in his honor, all in the orders of the captain of Knights, Melissa.

"Dear hero, please save my child," a woman approached Ryan. He was positioned in a throne in the middle of the town square as people lined up to be helped by him. "He is sick and I can't afford to buy medicine."

"Fret not, beautiful lady," Ryan smirked. "That is why us Adventurers are sent by the Heavens, it is to protect the people. Please go to that group of people, they are the healers and they can heal any disease."

"Oh, thank you, my hero!" the woman bowed and dragged her son to the side where the healers were.

Several more people came up until it was midnight when the last person asked for help. It was an old man which had a cane on him. He was shaking as he approached Ryan's throne.

"Good sir, can I please ask for some cash?" the old man asked. "I have been hungry for days and I am in need of soem food."

"Please go to that side," Ryan pointed at a long table that was filled with food. "They will be the ones who will serve you food for free!"

"But sir," Melissa approahced Ryan. "I am not questioning your honor, Lord Hero, but please slow down on giving away our resources."

"The resources are for the people, Knight Captain," Ryan sighed. "What's the use of those for us if we don't give them to the ones who pay taxes in the first place?"

"Y-You are right, sir," Melissa bowed and slowly walked back. "Pardon my intrusion and ignorance."

"Do not worry about it, Melissa," Ryan smiled. "You are forgiven."

In a roof near the town square, Glenn was watching over the scene. Even if the old man was the last to request, there were still a lot of people who came to admire Ryan.

"Is it just me or something is actually going on here?" John asked. "These actions from these people. They're not normal."

"We still have to observe what is going on before we can act," Glenn said. His eyes wandered down below when he saw Felix's group walk towards the town square, a thin and barely visible lingering mist was surrounding his head. "Unless…"

He leaped off of the roof and walked towards the town square. Gina and John followed him there and they all stood in front of the tree of the town square.

"This tree wasn't here earlier," Glenn said. "John, will you do the honors?"

John raised his dagger and nodded, "Yes, please." He vanished from where he stood and reappeared above the tree. John was about to swing his dagger when he was blocked by Melissa who used her sword.

"What do you think you're doing?" Melissa growled. "Stand back!"

John was pushed back by Melissa's strength. He was stronger than her overall, but her raw powee is still higher than he is. Assassins have relatively low physical strength, but have higher damage because of their skills.

Melissa landed on the ground and pierced her sword through the brick floor. "Nobody touches the tree."

"So, it is the tree," Glenn smirked. "It's about time you show up. The First Wave, the Mother Parasite."
