It was just like any ordinary day, as I sat on a bullet train for the first time. It felt weird since I have always wanted to experience sitting in it as many people said it was like the best train or something like that and now in the fact that I'm sitting in it just makes me feel unbelievable. It was fast and it was also much more comfortable compared to the subway back in New York. All of this makes me realize no wonder the people of this country are so proud of it.
As I stared at the window and saw the reflection on my face. I let out a long sigh. My name is Ranson Lim and I'm currently 16 years old in year 11of secondary school. My family is one of the most influential families in New York as we have a few family businesses like real estate, cosmetics, and food products. My appearance is better looking than average as I have short black hair, a pair of light blue eyes and my height is 177cm but I have a thin body as I rarely exercise. A few days ago, the current family head, my uncle celebrated his 65 birthday and declared that he will step down from this position. It was no surprise as it was a tradition when a family head reaches 65 years old they will have to step down from the position and the heirs of the main family that was at the age of 15 will complete the position through managing your life training for 5 years. This tradition was created to ensure the next head would not take the money for granted, and the family will still be able to continue many generations later.
Although I didn't want to compete, as I have no interest in being rich and all I want is to live a peaceful life but it was compulsory as my father was the fourth sit in the main family and as his heirs, I didn't want to embarrass him so here I am on a bullet train to Tokyo where I will begin my story.
Taking out a can of coffee that I bought before entering the train, I open the can, drank it, and tasted the balance of sweetness and bitterness making me more aware that this is not a dream.
As I have a few more hours left till I reach my destination. I decided to take a nap while thinking about ways how to improve my Japanese as I only know the basics of it and I have an entrance exam coming soon.

After a few hours, Ranson arrived at the station, and it was chaotic as many people were rushing to get on the train and get out of the train.
Ranson walked through the crowd of people with difficulties cursing in his mind why can't people make bigger doors to exit while saying this line 'Excuse me, I would like to get past' politely multiply times in Japanese.
After a few minutes, he managed to get past the huge crowd and was now lying against a pillar to take a breather while waiting for a text from his aunt. Since before he arrived in Japan, he was informed by his father that he would be fetched up by his aunt. Shortly, he wondered how could japanese people survive this daily basis and remembered a proverb that he had to learn from his old school.
'When in Rome, do as the Romans do'
This proverb means when you are visiting another place, you should follow the customs of the people in that place like in japan they have many customs like bowing 45 degrees to greet people respectfully.
'Ding!'
Ranson heard it and immediately took out his phone from his pocket. Then he saw a text from his aunt "Sorry I'm running late from work as I had just finished an important meeting just now. Pls, wait for me at the entrance of the train station."Later Ranson proceeded to walk to the entrance while replying to his aunt's text.
Soon, he begins to feel nervous meeting his aunt as he only knows a little about her. Out of his 15 years of life, he only met her twice since she was very busy. Therefore the only information he knew about her was that she was my father's younger sister and she is only 30 years old this year also she is still single.
As Ranson begin thinking about his aunt, he did not realize that there is a presence nearby.
'Hello, are you Ranson Lim?'
Hearing this, he turned around and saw a beautiful, tall woman with brown hair along with a pair of blue eyes wearing professional attire, looking at him with a smile.
'I am Lexi Lim, your aunt, do call me aunt Lexi or Lexi-neesan from now on.'
'Hello, Lexi-neesan. I am Ranson Lim. Thanks for picking me up despite your busy schedule.'
I bowed my head as it was a custom here and I needed to get used to it if I'm living here as it was a habit in this country to bow down to people to show respect.
'Don't be that polite. I am your aunt. I have seen you when you were still a child, you always ask me to cuddle you to sleep more than your mom. Then why are you treating me as a stranger now?'
As Ranson lift his head after the bow, his eyes met hers and he felt a sudden shock.
