Chereads / Mythical Hunter / Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Trapped

Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Trapped

Xerel is a 17-year-old Filipino boy who currently lives in the suburbs parts of New York. His mother and sister are now in Mega Earth. Although he could've joined them, Xerel declined as he wants to pursue his dream as a hunter.

Xerel is a smart person and loves reading documentaries about dungeons and monsters. He aced in his university and had a bright future ahead of him but when his family left, Xerel realized that they were not rich and were just barely hanging on, that's why they left Earth.

Having no money, Xerel had to find a job. Fortunately, he found one but on the downside, it was a shady job. He was given a contract of 5 years as a sewer cleaner which he is paid $200 an hour and although that sounded rich in modern times, today that money is enough to buy food to eat for the day.

Everything was more expensive. He lived in the smallest apartment in the city and the monthly payment was $12,000.

His dream of becoming a hunter was turning bleak but Xerel was determined.

"With my contract lasting for 5 years, I'll be able to awaken at the age of 22. Although it's quite late, I'll work ten times harder than everyone else."

Xerel clenched his fist as tears poured into his eyes. He wiped the tears with a cloth and wore a hazmat suit.

"Everyone's having a holiday and didn't even invite me. Is it because of my attitude or just racial discrimination?"

The reputation of third-rate countries had fallen by a degree of shame. Since the countries hit by the nuclear bomb became unhabitable, it became a wasteland for monsters.

People who used to live their or just the race of the country were now being looked down on almost at the level of being considered a slave and this discrimination still went up to this day.

The citizens of the countries that are safe from the attack lived in luxury while the evacuees suffered in solitude.

"I'll finish my quota quickly and watch the newly released documentation of Super earth."

Earth was earth, Mega Earth was the humanoid earth, Super-Earth was the monster world.

Xerel's job as a sewage cleaner was to remove monster blood and guts that usually get flown in sewers from the aftermaths of outbreaks and fights. It's also to alert hunters if there's a monster that had escaped through the tunnels.

Xerel had to scout the area check any rubble and remove it with a specialized vacuum that sucks monster-related rubbles.

"It's so silent that's it's almost loud. Being alone is creepy."

Xerel shuddered in fear after scaring himself. He continued to walk around the sewer when suddenly, the dark water began to ripple.

Xerel flinched but didn't panic. He held the emergency gun in his back pocket ready to fire at whatever appears on the water.

'This gun is only for emergency cases and contains five bullets of Mana shard. Although not quite powerful, it's enough to kill F-rank monsters if shot at its weak point.'

Something emerged in the water and Xerel immediately aimed his gun at the creature.

'That's a monster!'

What emerged in the water was a mole-type monster. It looked fatigued and was covered in black muck from the dark water as it rose itself to the ledge of the sewer. Xerel continued to observe the monster as he aimed his gun ready to fire at it if it goes aggro at him but to his surprise, it didn't even look at him almost like it didn't see him.

'Because of the black muck, I almost didn't see the heavy wound in its back. It looks heavily injured but it already spotted me, it should've fought me since monsters usually will fight back to anyone if they're in danger. What is it doing?'

The monster rose its claws and scratched the air around it. Then the air around distorted and a small purple portal appeared.

'I can't breathe...'

Xerel gasped as the air around him was momentarily disrupted. He was quite surprised at what the monster had done and knowing it could threaten his life, Xerel fired the gun straight at the open wound.

Pang!

A loud bang echoed throughout the sewer and the bullet pierced through the monster, killing it before it could enter the small portal. Then the air around returned to normal and the portal was still there including the monster who died who had half its arm inside the portal.

"I've never seen a monster that can rip through space and make a portal of its own. If it's not an F-rank monster, maybe it's an S-rank! Its monster core should be worth enough money for me to live a life of luxury! Maybe I can pay my debts and become a hunter! I hit a jackpot!"

Xerel jumped in joy and was ready to go to the other side of the ledge when suddenly, the ground shook and the water began to ripple.

'Something is coming from each side of the tunnel, and it's big!'

Xerel quickly opened his smartwatch and a holographic tab appeared. He checked the CCTV via the smartwatch and his eyes widened in shock.

'A dungeon outbreak appeared on both sides. It's not a big monster but a swarm of monsters coming this way.'

"Shit!"

Xerel called 841, an emergency hotline for dungeon outbreaks.

-841, what's your emergency?

"Two dungeon outbreaks have occurred in West St. RT-9A S. I think they're at least the level of E-rank monsters!"

- We've dispatched a group of hunters to check the area. Where are you currently at?

"I'm literally in the center of the dungeon outbreak. Shit! I think I'm gonna die."

- Calm down, what's your name?

"It's Xerel Mabait."

- Okay Xerel. Hmm...so you're Filipino?

"Yeah, what's the problem with that? Tell them to get here quick! There's no way out since the doors have already been blocked by the monsters!"

- Please wait patiently, the hunters will be there in a jiffy. Don't hurry the hunters okay?

"You fucking bitch! Because you found out I'm from a fallen race your acting like that?"

-Yep, so please rest assured. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

"You're asking me to fucking die! I swear to fucking God, if I get out of here alive. I'll hunt you down and kill your family."

- Oooh, I'm scared! Goodbye~

"Fuccck!!!"

Xerel gritted his teeth in frustration. The sound of monster shrills was getting louder and louder and any second now, they'd appear and kill Xerel.

"I'm still not ready to die yet!'

Xerel removed his hazmat suit and his body quickly became itchy due to the contamination of the air around. He cared no less and grabbed his gun as he swam to the dark water.

The smell was pungent and was quite toxic so Xerel held his breath and tried not to swallow any of the water.

Soon the swarm of monsters arrived and was about to make contact with each other having no way to escape, Xerel went to a small portal that the monster mole had made.

"I don't care if I may end up in a dangerous place, I just want to live longer!"

Xerel grabbed the corpse of the mole and scurry inside the portal and right after the monsters crashed into one another, Xerel dived inside the portal, completely sucking him inside as the portal disappeared in thin air.

***************

Xerel's body contorted in space as a nauseating feeling caused him to fall unconscious.

His eyes opened and immediately laid up as he puked on the ground. On his hand was the emergency gun and on the other hand, was the dead mole.

He looked around and was flabbergasted at what he was seeing.

He was in a meadow and above the skies were countless floating islands. There were giant creatures that Xerel has never seen in his life and they looked like S-rank monsters. He was sullen in fear and he was quite open in the meadow, he was an easy target for monsters so he wanted to hurry and hide.

Suddenly, a tone sound similar to a soft bell notification in a smartphone echoed in his head.
