As arthur finished reading the finale of the book he sighed and was satisfied, he pitied the boy but such is life. It a struggle of the weak minded and a rise to the resourceful. He returned the book back to the shelf and decided to rest so he can be early in his appointment tomorrow.
But before he could sleep he heard something break downstairs. He instantly got serious, he knows its not one of his family because all of them already slept. He got up and grab any possible weapon in his reach, what he got was a pencil and his belt.
But this is a serious situation so he cant complain, he grab both and took a peak, seeing no one he slowly came out and check the hallway, he can hear shuffling and thuds below.
He heard another item break and it seems to be near the kitchen, he has to move because just a door away was his son and daughter's room.
He creeped along the shadows and saw the culprits. Six masked individuals, One armed with a pistol, three with a blunt weapon and the other two are weaponless. The two seemed to be the carrier and get away driver.
The problem was their positions, the three thugs in blunt weapon are close to his son's door, the two weaponless are looting the kitchen and the guest room while the guy with a pistol left for the garage.
Since the one that looks like the getaway driver is near his position he took him out first, grabbing his mouth to prevent any scream from coming out and snapping his neck.
Holding his body and slowly setting it down he went for the three thugs, the hallway is a little cramp for their bats and pipe to swing sideways, only a thrust and chop can be done so he decided to separate them or lined them up in the hallway so he can take them all at once.
He chose the latter, throwing the pencil targeting the first man in the eye while he dashed to punch the second one to the throat.
As the pencil hit the first thug in the eye and was about to scream, arthur grabbed his mouth and shoved him back so hard his head collided with the third thug's head that produced a sound of bowling balls colliding with each other.
As both the first and third thugs fell down unconscious with a possible brain damage, he turned his attention to the second thug struggling on his knees.
He took the pencil out the first thugs eye and thrust it past the second thug's throat, holding the thug's mouth and pinning him down to prevent any struggle. Seeing the thug stopped resisting and breathing he took out the pencil and used his belt and tied the latter two unconscious/comatosed thug's with each other.
After doing so he quickly went to check out the one in the kitchen but saw him by the living room. He creeped behind him and did a submission hold. The thug was struggling so hard that he accidentally broke a vase that the thug with a gun heard, so he went back inside and saw his partner being strangled.
He pointed his gun to arthur and as he pulled the trigger, Arthur turned around using the thug in his hold as a shield to the bullets. The bullets shot the other thug but the one with a gun didn't stop and fired continuesly, seeing that, arthur shoved the body forward to get close to the gunman.
The gunman was getting nervous, he already shot all the bullets and only one left, but arthur was still closing in. He slowly retreated near the staircase so he can run to the front door when both arthur and the thug heard someone.
"Grandpa?"
Hearing this Arthur's heart raced to the extreme and the adrenaline pumped faster through his veins. His vision slowed as he saw the thug slowly pointing the gun at his granddaughter.
He drop the corpse he was holding and rushed to the thug tackling him hard to the ground and shoving the pencil hard to the throat with a grunt as a shot was fired and then silence.
Then a scream was heard followed by another, after a few minutes the sirens came before fading to darkness.
