Chapter 8 - 8. Hiking

"No way! What if something happens there later?!"  cried the mother half-screamed.

"There is a teacher, along with other friends, ma'am. After all, all the children are coming, isn't Melody?"

Mother nodded slowly.  She then took my hands and held them tightly.

"Back in high school, my mother participated in events like this too. Mother's friend, there were two people who disappeared at the top of the mountain, only met after a week, that's all, their condition is not very good anyway! What if you were like that too?"

"Don't worry, Mom, Melody will always be near the teacher, so it can't be lost. Yes, please, Mom, I want to join! In the past, I couldn't come because I didn't have money, now I have, but still can't join.  "

Mother seemed a little tired of hearing my words, but she still looked so worried.

"I'm afraid that something will happen to you! What kind of event is that? Can your parents come along?"

I shook my head quickly.

"It's an event to commemorate the anniversary of the school. Parents are not allowed to participate!"  I exclaimed quickly.

Mother immediately scowled.  She looked at me very sharply, then suddenly she took her cellphone and made a call there.

"Bams, you went to that hiking event, didn't you?"  she asked as soon as the phone was connected.

"No, Auntie!"  said Bambang.

I heard his voice quite clearly because my mother pressed loudspeaker mode on her cellphone.

"Oh, Mel! Bams won't come! You don't have to either!"  Mom exclaimed, looking at me intently.

"Then what's the matter if Bambang doesn't come? Mom, come on, I want to come along," I whined.

"But Bams won't come!"  Mother still insists.

"Yeah, what's that got to do with it?"

"Then no one will take care of you, Mel!"

"Later, I will stick with the homeroom teacher, it's safe, Mom!"

"The teacher must have a lot of business, he doesn't just take care of you!"

"But I want to!"

Mom looked at me very sharply, it made me shudder immediately.

"Let's just say, if Bams comes, you can come, if he doesn't come, don't expect you to come!"

Hearing this, I immediately grabbed my mother's cellphone and took it to my room.  The phone is still connected to Bambang.

"Bambang," I called softly.

"I don't want to! I'm too lazy to participate in cake events like that! What a waste of time!"  said Bambang without waiting for me to ask.

"Please, come along! I promise to be nice to you, I'll give you one wish! Whatever it is! Please, come along!"

A man groaned from the other side.  I knew very well that it was not Bambang's voice.

"No! There's nothing I want from you, so your offer is useless!"  said Bambang in a flat tone.

"Gosh, you're so mean, Bro!"  I shouted annoyed.

"So lazy, lazy! Where do you want to take me to accompany you, but if you're hiking? I don't want to use it! I don't want to!"

I wanted to curse him out loud, but of course, I didn't because after all, Bambang was the only chance I had to go along.

"Bams, I've been doing your homework for a month and that's okay too, please, how can I have the heart? I really want to come, come on, Bams!"

"Yeah, why don't you, with a woman, you really have the heart, Bams!"  someone chirps there.

I didn't know who was speaking because I had never heard that voice before.

"Bams, you really don't want to come? Are you sure? If that's the case, you have to take the risk!"  threatened me.

"Wait, what risk is this?!"  shouted Bambang.

"Tonight, I'll come to your house, then tell uncle Uyon that it was you who destroyed his favorite action figure!"

"Wow, bitch! Don't be careless, Mel! You're complaining!"  shouted Bambang panicked.

"It's your own fault, if you ask nicely, you still refuse! Just keep it simple, you come along, or I will complain to your father!"

A crisp laugh immediately sounded from the other side.

Is it possible for Bambang to load the speaker of this call so that his friends can hear our conversation?

Up to you!

"How? Why are you silent?"  I insisted.

"Okay! I'm coming! You fox!"

I laughed at Bambang's cursing.  Well, I don't care, the important thing is that I can come tomorrow.

I immediately ran down the stairs and looked for my mother.  Coincidentally, she was watching tv.

"Mom, this is what Bambang wants!"  I shouted as I ran over to the sofa.

"Where? I want to talk to Bambang!"  said mother while asking for her cellphone

"Hello, Auntie?"

"Bams, did you really participate in the event? What are you doing, Bams? It's good that you didn't come too, why did you change your mind?"

"Yes, because many of my friends are coming. Melody also seems to really want to come, so we can be there together!"

Mother scowled, glancing sharply at me.

"Well, take care of Melody while you're there! If Melody is scratched a little, just watch out!"

"It's safe, aunt!"

The conversation ended.  After putting back her cellphone, mom sat facing me and took a deep breath.

"Have you prepared your needs?"  asked mother halfheartedly.

"Not yet."

"Why haven't you? You're leaving tomorrow, right? You again, why did you tell mom all of a sudden?!"  Mother grumbled while pinching my cheek exasperated.

"Yesterday, Mom was out of town, so this is the only time now!"

"Well, let's prepare your needs!"

I nodded quickly, as I followed my mother.

"Lucky, mom still has mom's mountain bag!"  Mother grumbled as she entered her room.

Mom then took out a bag from the cupboard and put it on the bed.

This is the most beautiful and luxurious mountain bag I have ever seen.  Really, I don't want to ask about the price, because I'm sure it's a lot more expensive than I could have imagined.

"Smells, doesn't it?"  Mother muttered, then kissed the bag.

"Still safe. Come on, let's fill it with your needs!"

I nodded quickly, then followed my mother back to my room.

Mother takes a long time to prepare everything.  She was too careful to choose what clothes I should wear there.

Come on, who cares what I'm wearing?  We're not there to do fashion shows!  And oh my God, mom put a lot of stuff in there.  I'm not sure if I really need any of that.

And skincare?  Who will wear skincare on the mountain?  Why did she include it too?

"Mom, if I carry a lot of stuff, it will be quite difficult to climb."

"Ah, yeah, You're right, Mel! But, these are all important items that you must bring with you!"

"But if  I'm not strong enough to carry it, then what?"

Mom looked directly at the bag she had just zipped up.

"What should I take out?"  She mumbled softly.

"Skincare, body care, some clothes and, shoes? You can get some scarves out of there too," I suggested.

"Hey, you need all that! Even in the mountains, you have to take care of your skin and face! You also need warm clothes, shoes, scarves, you need them all!"

"But ..."
